Betty’s first breath was taken at the Johnstone Memorial Hospital where her maternal grandmother, Lucille Seely Turnbull, was a nurse. As Betty’s dad was a career Navy man, the family followed him to a variety of postings around the country — the final post being San Diego, Calif. Betty attended Adventist Academies in National City, Streck Calif., and Milo, Ore. After graduating from Milo in 1967, Betty received an LPN degree from Lane Community College, her RN degree from Walla Walla Community College in 1978 and BSN from WW College, and finally her master’s in social work in 1993 from Walla Walla College. Betty’s desire to continue and complete her education saw her move from Flor- ence, Ore. — where her sons Eric and Erin were born — to Portland and finally back to the Funny Farm where she lived with husband Rick Streck, son Eric and grandson Jacob. Betty’s loving and welcoming nature made her many lifelong friends, some of whom became her extended family.
