FBI investigating new emails
for classified information
WASHINGTON
(AP)
— The FBI is investigating
whether there is classified
information in new emails
uncovered during the sexting
investigation of disgraced
former
congressman
Anthony
Weiner,
the
estranged husband of one
of Hillary Clinton’s closest
aides.
FBI Director James
Comey told Congress in
a letter that the emails
prompted investigators to
take another look at whether
classified information had
been mishandled, which had
been the focus of its recently
closed, criminal probe into
Clinton’s use of a private
email server. Comey couldn’t
guarantee that the latest focus
of the investigation would be
finished before Election Day.
Clinton said Friday
that “the American people
deserve to get the full and
complete facts immediately.
She urged the FBI to “explain
this issue in question, what-
ever it is, without any delay.”
“Let’s get it out,” she said.
Comey did not provide
details about the emails,
but a U.S. official told The
Associated Press that the
emails emerged through the
FBI’s separate sexting probe
of Weiner, who is separated
from Clinton confidant
Huma Abedin. She served
as deputy chief of staff at
the State Department and is
still a key player in Clinton’s
presidential campaign. The
two separated earlier this year
after Weiner was caught in
2011, 2013 and again in 2016
sending sexually explicit text
messages and photographs
of himself undressed to
numerous women.
Federal authorities in New
York and North Carolina are
investigating online commu-
nications between Weiner
and a 15-year-old girl. The
U.S. official was familiar
with the investigation but was
not authorized to discuss the
matter by name and spoke on
condition of anonymity.

Emails show how Clinton
campaign chair was hacked
WASHINGTON (AP) — New evidence appears
to show how hackers earlier this year stole more than
50,000 emails of Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman,
an audacious electronic attack blamed on Russia’s
government and one that has resulted in embarrassing
political disclosures about Democrats in the final weeks
before the U.S. presidential election.
The hackers sent John Podesta an official-looking
email on Saturday, March 19, that appeared to come
from Google. It warned that someone in Ukraine had
obtained Podesta’s personal Gmail password and tried
unsuccessfully to log in, and it directed him to a website
where he should “change your password immediately.”
Podesta’s chief of staff, Sara Latham, forwarded the
email to the operations help desk of Clinton’s campaign,
where staffer Charles Delavan in Brooklyn, New York,
wrote back 25 minutes later, “This is a legitimate email.
John needs to change his password immediately.”
But the email was not authentic.
The link to the website where Podesta was encour-
aged to change his Gmail password actually directed
him instead to a computer in the Netherlands with a
web address associated with Tokelau, a territory of
New Zealand located in the South Pacific. The hackers
carefully disguised the link using a service that shortens
lengthy online addresses. But even for anyone checking
more diligently, the address — “google.com-securityset-
tingpage” — was crafted to appear genuine.

and had begun to recede from
the minds of voters. The FBI
said in July its investigation
of Hillary Clinton’s private
email server was finished.
Comey stressed in his
letter that the FBI could not
yet assess “whether or not
this material may be signif-
icant,” or how long it might
take to run down the new
investigative leads.
“In connection with an
unrelated case, the FBI has
learned of the existence of
emails that appear to be perti-
nent to the investigation,”
Comey wrote. “I agreed
that the FBI should take
appropriate
investigative
steps designed to allow
investigators to review these
emails to determine whether
they
contain
classified
information, as well as to
assess their importance to our
investigation.”
Clinton, in a brief state-
ment to reporters Friday
evening, noted: “The director
himself has said he doesn’t
know whether the emails
referenced in his letter are
significant or not. I’m confi-
dent whatever they are will
not change the conclusion
reached in July.”

Trump U staff included drug
trafficker, child molester
WASHINGTON (AP) —
Donald Trump says he hand-
picked only the best to teach
success at Trump University.
But dozens of those hired by
the company had checkered
pasts — including serious
financial problems and even
convictions for cocaine traf-
ficking or child molestation,
an Associated Press investi-
gation has found.
The AP identified 107
people listed as speakers and
staff on more than 21,000
pages of customer-satisfac-
tion surveys the Republican
presidential nominee has
released as part of his defense
against three lawsuits.
Trump and his attorneys
have said repeatedly that
the surveys show the
overwhelming majority of
participants were satisfied.
However, the suits allege
his namesake real-estate
seminars were a massive
fraud designed to “upsell”
students into buying course
packages costing as much as
$35,000.
As a candidate, Trump
has said he will run the U.S.
government like he runs
his businesses. So his past
hiring practices could offer
insight into how a President
Trump might fill scores of
key federal positions.
Some names from the
surveys were too common
to narrow down to individ-
uals, but AP used online
resumes, court filings and
other public records to piece
together detailed back-
ground checks on 68 former
Trump staffers. The results
could complicate Trump’s
legal defense that his Trump
University “apprentices” got
the top-flight instructors and
mentors they paid for.
Half of the 68 former
faculty and staff identified
by AP had personal bank-
ruptcies, foreclosures, credit
card defaults, tax liens or
other indicators of significant
money troubles prior to
teaching Trump University
courses promoting “wealth
building” and “how to invest
like a billionaire,” according
to AP’s review. Many of those
hired to teach did not have
college degrees and were not
licensed to broker real estate.
At least four had felony
convictions.
They include Ron P.
Broussard Jr., who was hired
to the Trump University staff
in 2007 after years serving
as a motivational speaker
at get-rich-quick seminars
taught in hotel conference
rooms.
Though he has never
been licensed as a real estate
agent or broker, Broussard is
listed as “staff” or “coordi-
nator” for at least five Trump
seminars titled “Fast Track
to Foreclosure.”
Records
show
the
former Army sergeant was
convicted at court-martial
in 1994 of sodomy and
indecent acts with a child.
He then served five years in
the military prison at Leav-
enworth, Kansas.
Trump gives $10 million, still
short on investment promise
WASHINGTON
(AP)
— Donald Trump has repeat-
edly said he will spend $100
million or more of his own
money on his presidential
bid. Yet even with a fresh
donation, he is $34 million
short of that promise.
The Republican nominee
gave his campaign another
$10 million, a Federal Elec-
tion Commission report filed
late Friday showed. At rallies
earlier in the day, he told
supporters he’d contributed
anew. “Boy, am I spending a
lot of my money,” he said in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He has now made a
personal investment of about
$66 million over the course
of the primary and general
elections.
The
latest
infusion
comes as Democrat Hillary
Clinton hold a striking cash
advantage over Trump, FEC
reports filed Thursday show.
