MONDAY
8:33 a.m. - Thieves stole two lawn mowers from Del’s Feed
and Farm Supply, 2055 N. First St., Hermiston.
8:52 a.m. - A woman reported she found pipes with wicks on
the nature trail at Third Street and Interstate 82, Umatilla. She said
she took pictures of the suspicious items to show law enforcement.
10:33 a.m. - Umatilla police received a report of domestic
violence in a brown minivan going toward Umatilla on Highway
730.
11:29 a.m. - A woman reported she was at the Pendleton
Wal-Mart Supercenter, 2203 S.W. Court Ave., Pendleton, where a
man and woman threaten to punch her in the face when she tried
to pet their dog.
11:57 a.m. - A stranger tried to get into a woman’s car in
Pendleton.
The woman reported she was using a cash machine Bank of
the West, 416 S.W. 20th St., Pendleton, when a 40-to-50-year-old
man followed her to her car and tried to open the passenger door,
which she locked. She man had brown and grayish hair, she
reported, and wore a burgundy shirt and blue jeans. He left toward
nearby Dean’s Market & Deli, 412 S.W. 20th St., she said, and she
called from a restaurant. Police did not ind the man.
12:21 p.m. - A Hermiston resident reported the theft of an inex-
pensive camera, a table and suitcase from West Quince Avenue,
Hermiston.
1:40 p.m. - An Athena resident reported the theft of pellet rile
and a 30.06-caliber rile from Zerba Road.
1:59 p.m. - The Pilot Rock police chief contacted a resident on
Southwest Third Street, Pilot Rock, about illegal burning.
2:38 p.m. - Hermiston police received a report of a theft of a
backpack with school supplies and a cellphone from a locker at
Sandstone Middle School, 400 N.E. 10th St., Hermiston.
4:02 p.m. - A Pendleton woman reported her ex-boyfriend was
harassing her through social media and threatened suicide.
5:18 p.m. - One vehicle rolled over on Highway 332 near
Milton-Freewater, trapping a female inside.
6:18 p.m. - A caller reported two gunshots came from a
vehicle passing his home on Highway 339 just north of Ferndale
Elementary School, 53445 W. Ferndale Road, Milton-Freewater.
7:10 p.m. - A Hermiston man reported he felt suicidal because
he broke up with his girlfriend.
7:16 p.m. - Juveniles were “screwing around” on the construc-
tion equipment between Pendleton High School, 1800 N.W.
Carden Ave., and West Hills Intermediate School, 1700 N.W. 15th
Drive, Pendleton.
7:35 p.m. - A Pendleton caller reported a German shepherd
mix at a house on the 600 block of Southeast Seventh Street tries
to bite people.
9:14 p.m. - Children, teenagers and their parents, according to
a caller, were smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol outside an
apartment at Pendleton Square Apartments Phase II, 924 S.W.
28th Drive, Pendleton. The caller also said the group was “having
sexually graphic discussions.” Police did not ind anyone.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•The Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice helped catch a man trying
to get away from Umatilla police.
Sheriff Ken Matlack said Umatilla police at 2:02 p.m. were
called about pursuit of a vehicle heading west on Highway 730.
Around three minutes later deputy Nathan Braun placed a spike
strip on the road near milepost 177, about a mile east of Irrigon.
Matlack said the strip blew out one tire on the suspect’s vehicle,
but the driver turned into Riverview Mobile Home, 1370 Highway
730, Irrigon.
“He obviously didn’t know where he was going ... and went into
a dead-end area,” Matlack said. “So they were able to take him
into custody.”
No one was at the police department Tuesday to talk about
the incident. Court records, though, show Antonio Reco Reaves,
32, of Hermiston, faces initial charges of driving while suspended/
revoked, reckless driving, and recklessly endangering another, all
misdemeanors, and felony attempt to lee.
Records also show Reaves has multiple convictions. His most
recent was in April for possession of methamphetamine.

Hagerty, 83, of Hermiston,
Oregon, passed away peace-
fully Saturday, August 27,
2016.
Gladys began her inal
traditional birthday trip to
Ocean Shores Washington

weekend to spend
her real birthday
with her son John.
Five days later she
suffered a severe
stroke which put
her birthday journey
in the hands of
Hospice. Hospice
guided her through Hagerty
her last stages of
life, inally ending
her birthday journey with
her husband Bill, her parents
Gus and Marie and her sister
Katherine.
Gladys was born August
15, 1933, in Forest Grove,
Montana, to Norwegian
immigrants Gust and Marie
(Indebro) Egeland. She
attended school in Forest
Grove and Winifred High
School, where she gradu-
ated. When Gladys was 19
she obtained her teaching
certiicate and was recruited
by the territory of Alaska to
teach grade school in Yakutat.
This event sparked a lifelong
passion for travel.
During that year she met
the love of her life, a cute
little Coast Guardsman,
William (Bill) Hagerty.
From that day forward her
teaching career paralleled
Bill’s Coast Guard career.
She married in Savannah,
Georgia, on August 20, 1954.
Her irst child was born in
Lewistown, Montana, while
Bill was deer hunting in
October of 1955. Her second
child was born in Hilo,
Hawaii (still a territory), in
October of 1957.
Throughout the duration
of Bill’s maritime career they
were always stationed near
the ocean. Many memories
and friends were made in
the years spent at Groton,
Connecticut, and Warrenton,
Oregon. Gladys continued on
with her education, graduating
from Great Falls College and
inally earning her Masters in
Special Education from the
University of Oregon. When
Gladys was 38 her teaching
career was temporarily inter-
rupted and forever changed
when she suffered from an
aneurism. This event did bless
her and everyone in her life
with a permanent and conta-
gious laugh.
It was when Bill
retired from the
Coast Guard and her
children were grown
that she was able to
expand her passion
of travel. Her travels
consisted of visiting
Bill and setting up
temporary homes
various
places
around the world
including London,
Japan, and China,
inally settling down in
Longview, Wash. Her dear
husband Bill passed away
in 1999 and her travels were
enjoyed with her children.
From Alaska to Mexico and
everywhere in between, she
continued her journeys.
In 2008 she made her
last move from Longview,
Wash., to Hermiston, Ore.
She remained there iercely
independent and making
friends with every person
who crossed her path with her
light-heartedness and drawer
full of chocolates.
Gladys is survived son
John Hagerty of Seaside,
Ore.; daughter K.C. Lorenzen
(Dave) of Hermiston, Ore.;
grandson Noel LeRoux of
Washington, D.C.; grand-
daughter Sarah LeRoux
of Hermiston, Ore.; great-
grandson Sean Stewart; and
an extended family of cousins,
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by parents Gust and Marie,
husband Bill and sister Kath-
erine.
A celebration of life service
will be held on Thursday,
September 1, 2016, at 11:00
a.m. at Burns Mortuary
chapel, Hermiston, Oregon.
Burial will be at Willamette
National Cemetery, Portland,
Oregon.
