Page 6A RECORDS East Oregonian Saturday, August 20, 2016 OBITUARIES BRIEFLY Doris Jean Amort Forest E. Kannard Vancouver, Wash. September 14, 1926-August 16, 2016 Pendleton September 7, 1950-August 13, 2016 Doris Jean Amort died early Tuesday morning, around 4:00 a.m. on August 16, 2016, while sleeping at her Sherwood Adult Family Home in Vancouver, Wash- ington. Her ten-plus year battle, dementia followed by Alzheimer’s, never stopped her from smiling. Kindness was always rewarded with a smile. Doris was born in Portland, Oregon, on September 14, 1926, to Amy and Chester Seafarth. Doris lost her daughter Amy to brain cancer (7/14/61-4/16/65). Amort Her parents, brother Norm and sister Evelyn all preceded her in death. Blessings are being made for all the Seafarth relatives. She attended Oregon State University and was a lifelong Pi Phi. Always a hard worker, she started her working career at US Steel as a secretary. Doris married John Amort on November 23, 1950. Being a wife, working mom and a professional suited her well. “Use it or lose it. Never stop moving.” Doris and John moved from Portland to Eastern Oregon (Condon, Joseph, Hermiston and Pendleton). Her work at Inland Empire Bank, with Dr. Bittner and with Lemon CPA provided wonderful friends. Doris was also very social and loved crafts. She planned large events for preserving corn, asparagus, jams and fruits, which were more about friendship than food. To relax she tailored her own clothes and was an award-winning knitter. The Church of the Redeemer, PEO and the Delphian Society were her volun- teering outlets. Doris is survived by her husband John, her son Dan, daughter-in-law Jean, and grand- children Mitchell and Jillian. A funeral service will be held in Pendleton, Oregon, Saturday August 27, 2016, at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer starting at 10:00 a.m. (reception, snacks and beverages to follow). He served with A/2/11 Artil- lery in the 101st Airborne Division near DMZ in the Republic of Vietnam. Once he returned home he held many different jobs as he was a true jack of all trades. In his most recent years he worked as a residen- tial contractor. Forest knew everyone and he deinitely couldn’t go anywhere without stopping and chatting with someone. He made several friendships over the years that lasted throughout his lifetime. He was such a fun-loving, always up for a good time kind of guy. He enjoyed every moment he spent with his two daughters, whether it be boating, trav- eling, going to the mountains or watching their activities. At the end of a long day he enjoyed catching up with buddies and having a round or two! Raise your glass to Forest … for a life well- lived!
