HERMISTON — An
upcoming photo walk is
planned by the Hermiston
Public Library Photography
Club.
Anyone interested in
photography is invited to
join the group for a ield trip
meeting at Hat Rock State
Park. The event is Tuesday,
Aug. 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the
pond at the park, which is
located off Highway 730
east of Umatilla. The club,
which is open to adults, is
free.

be awarded for top inishers in the
hike and running races at noon. Also,
a 20-foot water slide will provide fun

Vivian Shaw, administration secre-
tary at CTUIR’s department of natural
resources, said a support vehicle will
be available for the Kanine Ridge trip.
The 6.5-mile hike, which includes a
ridge incline, starts near Cayuse and
ends at the Deadman Pass rest area.
People need to bring water and wear
appropriate gear. Participants will
return in time for the lunch.
The second annual Chumash
Lacrosse Tournament runs from 8-10
a.m. and noon to 2:30 p.m. In addition,
there’s a time of yoga stretching and
breathing from 8:15-9:40 a.m. First
foods information booths open at
10 a.m. An educational component
is included in the event, including
answering questions at the information
booths. Prizes will be awarded.

ifth annual Class Reunion
and Community Dinner is
coming up in Pilot Rock.
The event is set for
Friday, Aug. 19 with a
barbecue beef tri-tip or
chicken dinner served from
5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Pilot
Rock High School cafeteria.
Senior citizens will be
served from 5:30-6 p.m.,
and others will follow. The
cost is $10 for veterans and
active military personnel,
$15 for adults and $12 for
students and seniors 65 and
over. Reservations must be

Morrow County Fair, which
includes events from Aug.
17-21 in Heppner.
Those planning to
participate in the parade
are asked to complete entry
forms and turn them in
at the Heppner Chamber
of Commerce or the
fairgrounds. The parade is
Saturday, Aug. 20.
In addition, the chamber
is catering the dinner during
the beer and wine tasting
event, which is Thursday,
Aug. 18. Prepared by chef
Alvin Liu, the chicken
fettuccine meal costs $10.
Also, a talent show is set
Thursday, Aug. 18 at 3 p.m.
Cash prizes are offered in
each age group. Participants
can sing, dance, play an
instrument, perform magic
or other talents.

A celebration of irst foods also
serves to raise awareness of the
mission of the Department of Natural
Resources of the Confederated Tribes
of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
The First Foods Festival & Race
— formerly known as Salmon Walk
— highlights protecting, restoring and
enhancing the tribe’s irst foods, which
includes water, salmon, deer, cous and
huckleberries.
The event is Saturday, Aug. 13 from
7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the July Grounds,
73310 July Grounds Lane, Mission. To
get there, take Exit No. 216 and travel
north on Highway 331 in Mission.
Take a right on Cayuse Road, travel
about a mile and then turn right onto
July Grounds Lane. The activities are
free, except a barbecue lunch fund-
raiser for $7, which begins at 11:30
a.m. In addition, T-shirts, aprons, bags,
sweaters and other items will be avail-
able for purchase. Money raised help in
providing natural resources curriculum
in local schools
