OBITUARIES
WEDNESDAY
7:10 a.m. - The Boardman Fire Department, Boardman
Police Department and Umatilla Electric Co-operative were
called to the vicinity of Marine Lane And Ullman Boulevard for a
ire caused by an exploding transformer.
8:11 a.m. - A red 2009 Dodge Journey was reported stolen
from the lot at Premier Motors, 84321 Highway 11, Milton-
Freewater, sometime during the night. An employee of the car
dealer said a salesman may have unlocked the vehicle the
previous day and didn’t remember what he did with the keys.
1:10 p.m. - The owner of a vacant house on Northeast
Riverside Avenue, Pendleton, got a call from a realtor who said
the sliding glass door of the house was open and she found
a used prophylactic on the counter, but no one was inside the
house. The realtor locked the house up again and the home-
owner requested a Pendleton police oficer meet her there.
1:19 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice received a
report of severe damage to two ifth-wheel trailers in a secured
storage area on East Elm Street, Hermiston.
2:07 p.m. - A wallet was stolen from a vehicle in a parking lot
at Highway 11 and Northeast Nursery Lane, Pendleton.
2:22 p.m. - A resident of Lind Road, Umatilla, called the
Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice to report he thinks the neighbors
are laying pipe to his well to steal his water.
4:16 p.m. - A resident of Northeast Gumwood Street, Pilot
Rock, discovered a man lying is his front yard. Pilot Rock police
were unable to ind the man.
6:17 p.m. - An onion grower on Craig and West Spearman
roads, Hermiston, reported people are stealing their onions and
provided the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Ofice with a license plate
number for one of the thieves.
8:58 p.m. - A dog attacked someone riding horseback on
Wilson Lane, Boardman. The Boardman ambulance took the
injured rider to Good Shepherd Medical Center, Hermiston.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Pendleton police arrested Dennis Schadler, 32, 1515
S.E. Court Place, Pendleton, for driving under the inluence of
intoxicants (alcohol).
•Pendleton police arrested Kirk Eugene Jenson, 45, address
not provided, for felony fouth-degree assault.
•Pendleton police arrested Nathaniel Gregory Tilden
Williams, 27, address not provided, on charges of assaulting a
police oficer (felony) and second-degree disorderly conduct,
resisting arrest, second-degree criminal mischief (vandalism)
and interfering with a police oficer (all misdemeanors).

College; and Adrie Traum,
who will attend BMCC with
a long-term goal of becoming
a lawyer.

was 85 years old.

Veva was born April
19, 1931, to Phillip Bill
Sr. and Eliza (Cowapoo)
Bill in Pendleton, Oregon.
She attended St. Andrew’s
School, Helen McCune
Junior High School and John
Murray Senior High School
in Pendleton.
She was an active volun-
teer with the Happy Canyon
and Round-up all her life and
camped at the Indian Village
every year. In 1949 she
took the role of Sacajawea
in the Happy Canyon night
pageant. The role is still
in the family today. She
remained an active partici-
pant in the Happy Canyon
until her death. She was the
1999 Happy Canyon Hall of
Fame recipient.
She was married to
Earnest Jackson and
had her irst son,
Phillip Jackson, on
March 20, 1956.
They later divorced.
She worked for
the irst Law &
Order Commission
and the Tribal
Enrollment
Commission in the
’60s to ’70s. She
then worked for
Kerns
Furniture
Factory in Pilot
Rock. In the early ’80s she
worked as an alcohol and
drug counselor. Then during
the ’80s to early ’90s she was
employed by Smith Frozen
Foods.
She is survived by her
son Phillip Jackson, brother
Raphael Bill and numerous
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, a daughter,
brothers Ivan Bill, Henry
Bill and baby Reginald, and
sisters Bernadette Bill Nez,
Donna Bill Chen and Phyllis
Bill.

a Bachelor of Science
degree from the University
of Oregon and continued
to take classes of interest
beyond that. Music was
also a big part of his life. He
played the guitar and was
a big BB King fan; seeing
him in concert was one of
the highlights of his life.
Dale enjoyed growing roses
and grapes, ly ishing and
hunting in his early years. He
was a collector of guns and
a computer geek, he made
wonderful pies and was an
all-around good cook.
Dale loved his nieces
and nephews. He taught his
nephews to shoot and hunt
and many other skills he felt
a man should know.
He is survived by his
sisters Rene Fisher and her
husband Bob of Prineville
and Nova Simpson of
Heppner, and many nieces,
nephews
and
cousins.
Preceding him were his
parents, a brother James
Simpson and numerous
aunts and uncles.

Donna (Loveless) Beck, 62, of Portland died Friday, July
9, 2016, in Portland. She was born Feb. 27, 1954, in Des
Moines, Iowa. No services are planned at this time.
Dale Lee Simpson
Dale L. Simpson, 67, of
Sherwood, Oregon, died
Monday, July 11, 2016,
at his home. A graveside
service will be held Friday,
July 15, at 1 p.m. at the
Spray Cemetery in Spray,
Oregon. Following the
service a potluck reception
will be held at The Rock in
Spray.
He was born on April 12,
1949, at The Dalles, Oregon,
the son of Gilbert P. and Ada
M. Anderson Simpson. He
was raised and attended
school in Spray until the
family moved to Pendleton
where he graduated from
high school.
Hawaii became his home
after high school, living
there for four years while
working in construction.
Moving back to the main-
land, Dale lived in many
areas: Montana, Bend,
Prineville, Heppner, Port-
land, and lastly Sherwood.
While living in Bend, he
owned and operated A-1
Glass Company in both
Bend and Redmond until ill
health forced him to retire.
When his parents fell to ill
health, Dale became their
caregiver, which he did for
many years.
Education was a big part
of Dale’s life. He earned
Patricia “Trish” Manley
Moses, 69, passed away May
19, 2016, at home to pancre-
atic cancer after a two-year
battle.
Trish was born on July
19, 1946, in Weiser, Idaho,
to Richard “Dick” and
Geraldine “Jeri” Manley.
Trish was a beloved
wife, mother and
grandmother and
she will be sorely
missed by all. She
gave her husband,
Ron Moses, 26 of
the best years of
their lives together.
Trish graduated
from
Hermiston,
Ore., in 1965. For
the last 26 years she Moses
made her home in
Meridian, Idaho.
Trish worked at Meridian
Ford and Dan Wiebold Ford.
When she retired, she enjoyed
gardening and lowers, espe-
cially zinnias. Her home was
always a showplace.
Trish has always had a
love for nice fast cars and
hot rods. She couldn’t stand
a dirty car, which is a trait
she inherited from her father.

Former Springield resident Ramona L. Tuchardt, 81, of
Stanield died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at her home. She was
born March 4, 1935, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A private family
