(541- Robert Joseph “Bob” Kilkenny, a wheat farmer who was a pillar of the local Heppner, Oregon, community, passed away on Tuesday in his home surrounded by family. He was 86. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Heppner with Funeral Mass on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11 a.m. Kilkenny at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Concluding service and burial will follow at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery. Bob spent his entire life within a 20-mile radius of Heppner and was known as a hard worker, with high integrity and a deep love for his local community. In July of 1997, Bob married the love of his life, Eva Wilkins. Together they traveled the world, but always returned to their home state of Oregon. They shared a love for the University of Oregon and attended many sporting events with family. Bob was an active community supporter who donated to the high school and contributed to the county fair, the Elks Lodge and St. Patrick’s Church. He was a irm advocate of education and believed that supporting the youth in the community doesn’t stop with parents or teachers, but that each of us has a responsibility in helping these children reach their full potential. While Bob touched the lives of many, he did not need to be recognized for his contributions, instead preferring to do things quietly or anonymously. Although his phys- ical presence will be missed, his focus on the community, sense of integrity, humble attitude and kindness continue to live on within his surviving family members. Bob was also a man of great faith and active in the local Catholic Church. This faith allowed for a peaceful passing and a sense of joy in being reunited with his mother. Bob is survived by his wife Eva; his sons Russell (Kim), Patrick (Stephanie), John (Diane) and Kevin (Becky); daughter Kelly (Bob); stepsons Bruce (Lynn), Brian (Sherrie), Jeff (Kathy), Grant (Tiffany) and Earl; stepdaughter Kellie; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother Charlotte “Lottie”; father John; and siblings Rose, John, Bill, Sara, Mary Ann, Mae, Robert Russell, Ilene and Colleen. In lieu of lowers, remem- brances may be made to the Heppner Booster Club, P.O. Box 917, Heppner, OR 97836. Sweeney Mortuary of Heppner is in care of arrangements.
