round at Quail Valley Golf Course
on Monday.

going over on the
18th hole to inish
with a 67.
Summit freshman Olivia Loberg
was six strokes back in second place
with a 73, and Pendleton junior
Haley Greb was third with a 75.
Greb started her round with
nine-straight pars, but hit four
bogeys on the back nine to go with
a birdie on the par-3 16th hole.
Pendleton coach Terry Prouse said
wind speeds picked up as the day
went along and led to the higher
scores on the back nine.
Crater senior Daniele Giles was
tied with The Dalles junior Iliana
Telles in fourth place with 77.
Pendleton senior Shelby Greb
was tied with Ridgeview senior
Tianna Brown for eighth at 10-over
with an 82. She chipped in for birdie
on No. 2 and chipped off the pin on
No. 15.
Buckaroos freshman Megan
George and senior McKenna Pratt
each shot 96 to complete Pend-
leton’s team score, and freshman
Rylee Harris shot a 120.
Summit led the team scores,
and shot a combined 34-over par
322. Crater was second with 341,
Pendleton was third with 349 and
Wilsonville was fourth with 394.

When the Echo Cougars surpris-
ingly dropped a pair of games to
Enterprise on Friday afternoon,
it swung the door to the top of the
Eastern Oregon League standings
wide open for the Weston-McEwen
TigerScots.
But standing in their way was
their
Saturday
opponent, the Vale
Softball
Vikings. If the
TigerScots swept
the Vikings, the
Vale
EOL title was
theirs, but if they
lost at least one
game then the
Vikings would be
the champions.
So
when Weston-McEwen
Saturday’s games
inally came, the
TigerScots were
determined to secure that champi-
onship and boy did it show, as they
swept the Vikings with wins of 15-0
and 13-1 to earn the championship
in just their irst year competing in
the league.
“It’s monumental,” said Weston-
McEwen coach Jeff Griggs. “The
girls were focused, it was senior
day, and to win the league title ... it
means a lot to them.”
The TigerScots (17-4, 14-2
EOL) won with a barrage of home
runs on Saturday, hitting a total of
nine in the two games. Four players
registered multi-homer games with
Jordyn Lambert hitting three, Jessica
Lambert with two, Isabelle Dillow
with two — her irst two of the season
— and Charmayne Bennett with two.
“That cost me money on a whole
box of balls,” Griggs joked.
Before Saturday, the TigerScots
had hit just nine home runs for the
season, but Griggs said he credits
the outburst to great preparation at
the plate from his team.
“We worked a lot all week at
practice for (Vale’s pitcher), and the
girls were able to get their bats on
the balls and square them up today,”
he said.
But aside from the offensive
eruption, Weston-McEwen was
backed up by a dominant day in
the pitching circle by senior Jessica
Lambert, picking up her ninth and
tenth wins on the season.
Lambert pitched all ive innings
in both games, and combined to
allow just six hits, two walks, and
one run to go with 18 strikeouts.
“She’s throwing really well right
now,” Griggs said. “She has been
working on different pitches as she’s
with Haley Greb grouped with
Oshiro and Loberg in the lead trio.

went along, some she didn’t have at
the start of the year, and she’s been
real focused at the right time.”
Lambert only had a few blemishes
on her stellar afternoon, with one
coming right from the start in Game 1.
In the top of the irst, Lambert struck
out the irst batter before giving up
two walks and a hit to load the bases.
But she battled back and escaped
unscathed with a third strikeout in the
inning to strand the runners.
The TigerScots then came to
bat in the irst and attacked Vale
(18-7, 13-3) pitcher Kelsey Hawley
with a lead-off solo home run from
Dillow and then a two-run shot
from Lambert for the early 3-0 lead.
Then in the second inning, Lambert
and Bennett each went yard as the
TigerScots pounded out nine runs
for a commanding 12-0 lead.
In game two, the TigerScots
followed the same blueprint to
success with four early runs in the
irst inning behind a three-run,
no-doubt home run from Jordyn
Lambert to open up the early lead.
Lambert then took it upon herself to
put the game away for good in the
ifth inning as she led off the inning
with a solo home run and then ended
the inning with a three-run homer to
kick in the 10-run rule to end it as
the team batted around.
For the day, Jordyn Lambert
inished 4-7 with ive runs scored
and seven RBI to go with her three
home runs, upping her season
batting average to an even .500.
Jessica Lambert inished with three
hits and six RBI on the day, and now
has ive home runs and a team-best
35 RBI on the season.
Weston-McEwen will now await
some lower seed district tournament
games and will prepare for the district
title game on Friday afternoon.

Sasquatch rally past Clark County
East Oregon advances
to Bowl Championship

PORTLAND — Staring at a big goose
egg on their half of the scoreboard and
facing elimination in the state postseason,
the East Oregon Sasquatch rugby side
came out of intermission with a purpose
and stormed back for a 17-10 win over
Clark County in the Bowl Championship
semiinals on Saturday at Portland’s
Delta Park.
Clark took a 10-0 lead into the break,
but didn’t score in the second half as the
Sasquatch hung 17 unanswered points on
the board.
Gabe Goad, Jamaal Vann and
Juan Madrigal all scored tries for the
Sasquatch, and Jake Szumski was 1 for 3
on conversions.
Sasquatch coach Eric Gabriel said in
the team was playing “smart rugby and
showing more heart and tenacity than
they had all season,” during the surge,
and the team “left it all on the pitch.”
“I could not be any prouder of these
guys,” he said. “They not just showed
that they are one tough team that won’t
give up, but that they are all of high
character.”

jump and the Mountain-
eers placed second in the
men’s and
w o m e n ’s
team points
on Saturday
at
the
Track & Field C a s c a d e
Collegiate
Conference Track and Field
Championships at Hermis-
ton’s Kennison Field.
A junior out of Idaho,
England leaped 15.87 meters
(52 feet, 1 inch) to set the new
meet standard, and junior
Hakeem Belle was second
with an NAIA “A” standard
tally of 14.58 (47-10). At
the time, the event propelled
EOU to irst place in the
rankings.
The Mountaineers led
Southern Oregon by 17
points going into the 5,000-
meters, but the Raiders
racked up 23 points to take
the lead and held off EOU by
three points in the end.
“We entered as the
underdog, and to even be in
the position to win the meet is
a testament to how well they
performed,” said head coach
Ben Welch in comments to
the EOU athletics website.
“We competed extremely
well, but Southern Oregon
just came through in the end
and had some clutch perfor-
mances.”
England was named Field
Athlete of the Meet, but
wasn’t the only Mountaineer
setting records on Saturday.
Senior Ryan Rosenau broke
his own school record in the
400 hurdles, capturing irst
place with an NAIA “A”
standard mark of 52.82.
Junior Pancho Saldana of
Milton-Freewater won the
javelin with NAIA “A” stan-
dard mark of 61.01 (200-2),
and senior Jason Hendricks
of Boardman was fourth in
discus (41.82/137-2). He
also scored team points in
hammer throw and shot put.
College of Idaho outdis-
tance the EOU women with
203 points for its fourth-
straight conference title.
“The women had an
excellent meet,” said Welch.
“College of Idaho was
outstanding, as they kind of
ran away with it and hid, but
we had some superb perfor-
mances.”
Andrea Lemus of Umatilla
had a couple of those, and
was all-conference in the
200-meters after inishing
third in 25.91. She also placed
ifth in the 100 (12.86), and
ran on the second-place
4x400 relay team. Also of
Umatilla, Amie Zitterkob was
eighth in the 200. Pendleton
product Amanda Fowler leapt
to sixth in the triple jump
(10.26/33-8).
