Crescent Valley senior Alec Berrey and Summit junior Cole Chrisman were tied for third at even par. Buckaroos junior Nathan Som was his team’s leader through 18 in a four-way tie for sixth at two-over 74. Next for the Bucks was junior Sam Kung (80) in a three-way tie for 20th, junior Brayden Pulver (81) in a ive-way tie for 23rd, and senior Reilly Hegarty (83) in a four-way tie for 29th. Sophomore Jared Geier begins the inal round tied for 40th after shooting 87. Som will be paired with Geniza and The Dalles junior Chase Snodgrass (75) for the inal round. They will tee off Tuesday at 8:06 a.m. 4A Boys CRESWELL — With the short list of title contenders establishing itself through 18 holes, Mac-Hi juniors Evan Kain and Riley Chester both settled into the second tier of golfers looking to ill out the top 10 on Monday at the OSAA 4A Boys Golf State Championships at Emerald Valley Golf Club. Mazama senior Bryce Wortman sat atop the lead- erboard with a one-under par 71, and Crook County junior Mayson Tibbs was right behind with a 72. Klamath Union sophomore Craig Ronne was third with a 75, and Tillamook’s Carter Lee was fourth at 77. The next 18 golfers were all within 11 shots of each other, with Kain in a four-way tie for 17th with an 88, and Chester tied for 21st with 90. Nine strokes separate the team leaders Valley Catholic (350) from fourth-place Marshield, and Mac-Hi was seventh in team scoring with 366. Freshman Kodi Leiden- frost and sophomore Noah Wilson each shot 94 to round out Mac-Hi’s top four, and Pioneers senior Armando Garcia shot a birdie on his irst hole but inished with a 95. Kain will be last on the course for Mac-Hi in the inal round and tees off Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. 3A-1A Boys CRESWELL — Heppner junior Logan Grieb was eight strokes off the lead and rounded out the top 10 after the irst round at the OSAA 3A-1A Boys Golf State Championships at Emerald Valley Golf Club on Monday. Grieb shot an eight- over par 80 to lead local competitors, and Nixyaawii sophomore Riley Lankford was ive strokes behind him in a four-way tie for 14th. Grieb had one birdie, 10 pars, ive bogeys and two double bogeys in his round. Lankford’s card had eight pars, seven bogeys and three double bogeys. St. Mary’s senior Josh Wu and Creswell senior Dayne Miller both shot even-par 72 Softball SIMPSON 10, EASTERN OREGON 0, 5 innings — At Redding, Calif., Simpson pitcher Paris Hallums threw a one-hitter against the Eastern Oregon Univer- sity softball team on Monday, and the Red Hawks pulled away for a 10-0 win in ive innings in the NAIA Regional bracket. EOU (29-22) left four runners stranded, and Jorden Gerlach earned their only hit. Pitcher Hailey Kline struck out three, but also allowed eight earned runs on seven hits for just her seventh loss of the season. Simpson (41-4) took the momentum in the third inning when Courtney Thomas smacked a three-run home run to make it a 4-0. In the fourth, Madison Wright launched a two-run triple to swell the Red Hawks’ advantage to 7-0, and Kristin Beckman capped the inning with a three-run double. Wenatchee (24-17, 19-13 East) led 8-0 after two innings in Game 1, and scored nine runs in the ifth inning of Game 2. Both game ended in the ifth via the 10-run mercy rule. Baile Wilkey went 2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI for the Knights in Game 1, and Nikki Mather went 3 for 4 with four RBI in Game 2.
