for LA Clippers
LOS ANGELES (AP)

Big moments are the reason Pendleton’s Kai
Quinn plays the game.
The senior outfi elder and pitcher provided a few
of those big moments in pressure situations for the
Buckaroos on Tuesday as they beat The Dalles 4-2
in a Columbia River Conference baseball game at
Bob White Field.

with two outs and the bases loaded

then came on to pitch two innings
of relief and struck out the River-
hawks’ Kellen Mathisen with bases

the seventh.
“It’s fun, you’ve got to love to
compete against someone else,”
Quinn said. “Out there pitching,
you’ve got to love to compete and
Pendleton
it’s always fun going into those
situations. … You’ve only got so
many years to play the game and
so you’ve got to want to do it.”
The Dalles (8-10, 2-4 CRC) struck fi rst when
Colton Walker doubled off the wall in center fi eld
with two runners on in the fi rst inning, but could
only get one of them in thanks to a great relay from
center fi elder Gage Correa and shortstop James
Bradt that gave catcher Ryan Russell plenty of time
to tag out Mathisen as he tried to come all the way
from fi rst base.
Pendleton (11-8, 2-4) knotted the score 1-1 in the
second when a hit batter followed by three walks
pushed Nick Bower in from third.

Tuesday’s match-up with The Dalles
was a must-win situation for the Pend-

PENDLETON — The Bucka-
roos placed three golfers in the top
fi ve to win the team title Tuesday at
Pendleton Country Club.
Sisters Shelby and Haley Greb
each shot 78 to lead the way, and
Shelby took the higher placing after
a scorecard playoff.
They were both behind The
Dalles’ Illiana Telles, though, who
shot 77 for medalist.
Pendleton’s Megan George shot a
96 to place fi fth, and the Buckaroos
shot 351 as a team. Hermiston was
second in the team standings with

shoot below 100.
La Grande’s Trinity McCarthy
was fourth with an 82.
Pendleton’s other golfers were
McKenna Pratt (99) and Rylee
Harris (116), both of whom coach
Terry Prouse said brought several
strokes off their scores for a strong
day by the team all around.
Hermiston’s scores were Sydney
Adams (102), Sonia Peterson (102),
McKenzie Lind (106) and Lexi
Lambert (107).

IRRIGON 14, HEPPNER 3 (5
innings) — At Heppner, eight runs
in the fi rst inning and another strong
outing from Austin Rice were too
much for the Heppner Mustangs to
overcome in a District 6 baseball
game on Tuesday.
Rice went the full fi ve innings
and struck out nine while allowing
three runs on six hits and two walks.
He was working with a lead the
entire way thanks to Irrigon’s eight-hit
rally in the top of the fi rst inning.
Fredy Vera led the game off with a
single and later made it 5-0 when he
hit another single to bring in Adrian
Roa. Zack Henrichs and Cougar
Kroske also had two hits in the inning.
Only Hendrichs would get
another in the game, though, and led
Irrigon (11-4, 6-1 SD6) going 3 for 4
with two runs and two RBI. Hayden
White had a team-high three RBI.
Jake Lindsay went 2 for 3 with an
RBI to lead Heppner (2-9, 1-3).
The teams play again on Saturday
when they meet in Irrigon for a
doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
