4:25 a.m. - A caller told Pendleton police a pickup was
parked by the bridge near the Denny’s restaurant on Tutuilla
Road, and this was concerning because his neighbor’s home
was broken into three times in the past year. Police checked
but did not ind the vehicle.
7:20 a.m. - Dogs again got out of their yards on North
Third Street, Athena, and entered a neighbor’s property.
She reported the owners allow the dogs to run free, and she
believed the dogs killed her cat.
8:06 a.m. - A caller on Northwest Despain Avenue,
Pendleton, told police there was a 4-foot-by-3-foot package in
a bed sheet in her driveway.
10:13 a.m. - An Irrigon mother asked law enforcement to
contact her regrading troubles she is having with her teenage
son. The case was under investigation.
10:18 a.m. - A resident of Bel Air Apartments in Hermiston
reported someone tried to kick in the apartment door around 3
a.m.
11:01 a.m. - A two-vehicle accident blocked the lanes of
Southeast Fourth Street. Hermiston Fire and Emergency
Services responded.
12:05 p.m. Pendleton police received a report of noxious
vegetation growing near the Travelodge, 411 S.W. Court Ave.
The caller said customers complained about the weeds.
1:41 p.m. - A Pendleton woman reported someone burned
the lowers she planted on Southeast Frazer Avenue. She did
not see who did it, she said, and the ire was out.
1:59 p.m. - Brush caught ire near the Keystone RV Co. site
on the 3000 block of Westgate Drive, Pendleton. Fireighters hit
the scene and kept the ire to no more than three acres.
2:12 p.m. - Rocks fell from an asphalt truck on Powerline
Road near Cottonwood Road, Milton-Freewater, then the rig
stopped and a lot of rocks fell out. A caller reported this might
qualify as a road hazard.
3:49 p.m. - Someone left a gun in the men’s bathroom
on the main loor at Pioneer Hall, Blue Mountain Community
College, 2411 N.W. Carden Ave., Pendleton. An employee
of the college called police and said the gun remained in the
bathroom, staff were not letting anyone inside, and she would
wait for an oficer.
4:30 p.m. - A man reported he bought a car near Milton-
Freewater, but the certiicate of title is not for the car he bought,
and the person who sold the car could be going to Mexico. He
said he was concerned he bought a stolen car.
7:17 p.m. - A daughter calling for her mother who did not
speak English told Stanield police the U.S. Post Ofice about
a week ago gave a package for her mother to someone
else. Postal workers told her they would get it back, but her
mother has not received the package that contained about
$75 worth of clothes, and now the postal employees were not
cooperating.
7:50 p.m. - A juvenile in Boardman reported his guardian
assaulted him. The incident occurred outside the Boardman
city limits, so Morrow County Sheriff’s Ofice began an
investigation.
9:45 p.m. - Three juvenile males on push scooters ran over
a new mail box on Southwest Second Street, Pendleton. The
caller said the trio lives in the neighborhood.
10:02 p.m. - A Weston mother reporter her son is a drug
user and she was afraid he will try or is trying to harm her.
10:11 p.m. - A male ired a gun inside an apartment on
Southwest 30th Street, Pendleton. Another resident heard the
shot, called police and talked to the gun handler who said it
was an accident.
11:28 p.m. - Crossing arms were “dinging” for at least an
hour at the intersection of Southeast Court Place and 17th
Street, Pendleton, near the Woolen Mills.
ARRESTS, CITATIONS
•Pendleton police arrested Tate Brandon Patterson, 32,
address not provided, for irst-degree burglary and second-de-
gree mischief.
•Hermiston police arrested David Ray Arnold, 33, address
not provided, for violating parole, driving while suspended,
attempt to lee, possession of methamphetamine and on a
warrant out of Benton County, Washington.
Dennis N. Keener of
Paterson, Washington, was
born on May 27, 1952, in
Lawrence, Kansas, to parents
Ronald and Bonnie Gomel
Keener. He died on April 23,
2016, in Richland, Wash-
ington, at the age of 63 years.
Dennis attended many
different
schools
growing up due to
moving frequently
for his father’s
work. He graduated
from St. Joseph
High School in
Shawnee, Kansas.
Dennis had several
jobs before moving
to Wyoming to
work in the oil
ields. He then went Keener
to work for what
is now Williams
Gas & Pipeline where he has
worked for the last 30 years.
He transferred to the Herm-
iston, Oregon, area and then
in 1998 settled in Paterson,
Washington, where he has
lived since.
Dennis was united in
marriage to Lori Wiersma
on October 3, 2003, in Bend,
Oregon. Dennis was an
active member of Our Lady
of Angels Catholic Church,
Hermiston, Oregon. Dennis’s
faith and love for his church
and family were his top
priorities. He cared deeply
for his fellow co-workers.
Dennis enjoyed playing golf,
jumping in the car and going
on a trip, and simply sitting on
the porch and looking at the
river and watching the sunset.
He is survived by his
wife Lori Keener, Paterson,
Wash.; mom Bonnie Keener,
Marysville, Wash.; children
Jennifer Keener, Big Piney,
Wyo., Fletcher Keener,
Vernal, Utah, Michelle Cody,
Redmond, Ore., Scott Willis
and wife Wendy, Battle-
ground, Wash., Stew Willis

Henry Gehrke is one of Echo High School’s outstanding
students. He is an intelligent, quiet and shy individual
who has slowly come out of his shell this year. He is the
son of Beth and Delbert Gehrke. This past academic
year he was involved with the football team, played on
the basketball team, and is Echo’s only tennis player.
Henry is heavily involved with various Junior Class
Activities and school clubs. He was also a team member
on Echo’s FFA Meat’s Team that won irst place at state
at last year’s competition. He carries a 4.00 GPA.
