Elgin, 71, of Heppner died
Monday, March 14, 2016,
at Richland, Washington. A
memorial funeral mass will
be held 11 a.m. Saturday,
April 2, 2016, at St. Patrick’s
Catholic Church in Heppner.
A luncheon will immedi-
ately follow at St.
Patrick’s
Parish
Hall.
She was born
March 15, 1944, at
Redmond, Oregon,
the daughter of
Robert and Dickse
Keyes Williams.
Annie was raised
in
Twickenham,
Oregon; her early
school years were Elgin
attended at Twick-
enham
School,
taught by her mother
Dickse, the only teacher in
the one-room school house.
She then transitioned into
the neighboring town of
Mitchell through her high
school years, where she
graduated in 1962.
Ann married Jacy Lee
Gibbs in 1964 in Twick-
enham. They later divorced.
Ann then married Patrick
N. Elgin on May 20, 1979,
in Prineville, Oregon. In
1980, Pat and Ann moved
their family to Pat’s family
farm, dubbed “Last Chance
Ranch,” where the family
farmed until health forced
the sale.
Annie sold real estate
for a number of years
while living in Prinveille
and Pendleton. During her
years of real estate, she was
honored with numerous
awards and well as serving
as the president of the Real-
tors Land Institute, which
allowed her to do extensive
traveling throughout the
United States. For a few
years, Ann ran the Silver
Saddle in Pendleton. After
running the restaurant, she
moved to Heppner to be near
her son and his family.
Ann loved spending time
with her family and
watching her kids’,
then
grandkids’
involvement
in
sports, 4-H, FFA
and any other
activity. She was an
avid seamstress and
enjoyed gol¿ng in
her later years.
Ann was a
member of the
Pendleton
and
Heppner
Elks
Lodge, Pendleton
Eagles Lodge, and St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church in
Heppner.
Survivors include her
daughter Carrie (Joe-de-
ceased) Bennett of Pend-
leton; sons Jay Gibbs (Sue)
of Heppner and Kenny
(Chris) Gibbs of Hermiston;
sister Mary M. Fitzgerald;
brothers Robert Williams,
Kevin D. Williams and A.
Mathew Williams; nine
grandchildren, and four
great-grandchildren. Annie
was preceded in death by
brothers Peter Williams and
Don Williams, and a sister,
Chica Hansen.

does not live there.
10:9 a.m. - $ large ElacN and tan dog has wandered around
Mamie 6treet, 6tan¿eld, for a few days, then came into a woman’s
yard and EarNed and growled at her. The dog was gone Eefore police
arrived.
10:29 a.m. - A Pendleton resident on Southwest 28th Drive
reported someone NicNed in her front door.

10:8 a.m. - 9andals EroNe out the window from a vehicle and
three windows at Mid Valley Restaurant Services, 516 N. Main St.,
Milton-Freewater.
10:57 a.m. - A mother on Naches Avenue, Umatilla, called 9-1-1
after a friend of her daughter’s tried to get into her house. He is in his
20s and was rude and screamed to her, she stated, and drove off in
a Elue picNup with tires in the Eed.
10:58 a.m. - A farmer on Fulton Road, Pendleton, reported a
EreaN-in and theft of eTuipment worth more than 10,000.
11:04 a.m. - A man on Rieth Road, Echo, reported the theft of his
9mm pistol from his vehicle.
11:13 a.m. - Horizon Project Inc., 608 Russell St., Milton-
Freewater, was the target of a thief that cut the fuel line on a vehicle
and stole fuel.
11:48 a.m. - A woman in Pilot RocN told police her e[-Eoyfriend
was following her after they argued. She said he “has gotten physical
in the past.´
3 p.m. - A Pendleton father wanted to talN to an of¿cer aEout the
theft of his son’s phone and taElet at %edford %ridge on Northwest
Carden Avenue.
4:48 p.m. - Pendleton police received a report of a man
assaulting a woman.
5:29 p.m. - Trash is piling up at a homeless camp at
CottonwoodEend and Westland roads, Hermiston, a caller said, and
the camp is near the Umatilla River.
5:38 p.m. - Two motorcycle riders, aEout 18-20 years old, were
popping wheelies down Main near AlEa Street, UNiah.
8:09 p.m. - A Umatilla woman on Cherry Street reported someone

Mary “Arminta” Rhodes,
the middle of three children,
was the daughter of Watson
Lamar and Susie Arminta
Draughon Hall. Arminta
was born April 15, 1932, in
Mulberry, Florida. She later
graduated from Murphy High
School in Mobile, Alabama.
The family moved to Walla
Walla, Washington, in 1949.
Arminta worked at Whitman
Mission, Drumhellers and
later for the Corps of Engi-
neers.
While skiing on the slopes
of Spout Springs she met
her future husband, Donald
“Don” Rhodes. They were
married on September 7,
1952, in Walla Walla. She
was active in her church,
Pioneer Methodist, and was
a Sunday school teacher. Don
was a member of the Walla
Walla Jaycees and Arminta
was involved in the Jaycees
Jaynes. They attended the
National Jaycee Convention
in Colorado in 1956.
Don and Arminta moved
to Milton-Freewater in 1963
when they purchased the

to honor roll

funeral home and made major
renovations to the building
over the years. They also
operated rental businesses in
Walla Walla. In 1983, Mr. and
Mrs. Rhodes along with Alan
Ray purchased the Colo-
nial-DeWitt Funeral Home,
the funeral home
that Don began
working for in 1947.
After retiring in
1985 they enjoyed
spending
their
winters in Mexico,
traveling to other
locations
and
spending time at
their cabin in the
Blue
Mountains.
Arminta was a
Bluebird
and
Camp¿re leader for
several years and a dedicated
member of PEO, serving
twice as its president. Arminta
attended the First Christian
Church and Bible study
groups. Sewing, quilting
and gardening and spending
time with her family was a
highlight.
The Rhodes family would
like to give a special “Thank
You” to the wonderful
caregivers of Brookdale for
the loving care you have
showed to our wife, mother
and grandmother, and also
to Walla Walla Community
Hospice.
She is survived by her
husband Don; son and
daughter-in-law Greg and
Nina Rhodes; daughters
