FRIDAY
2:24 a.m. - An employee of Blue Mountain Towing reported
a blue suburban hit the sign at Lindell Auto and Truck Parts, 411
Highway 11, Pendleton, and was heading into Pendleton on Court
Avenue.
6:43 a.m. - A Pendleton-area man needed an ambulance ride
to a hospital after he fell out of bed and could not move his legs.
7:40 a.m. - A herd of 15 cows and calves walked up and down
Baggett Lane near Hermiston. The Umatilla County Sheriff’s
2f¿ce contacted the livestock owner.
8:08 a.m. - An employee of Pioneer Title Company, 126 S.E.
Court Ave., Pendleton, reported a bicycle was chained to the front
entry gate, and they were unable to get in the front door.
8:20 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s 2f¿ce received a
9-1-1 call from a man who tried to speak but was disconnected,
and when dispatch tried to call him back there was no answer.
A second man called dispatch to report he was Àagged down by
a man on Pine Creek Road near Weston and wanted to report
a one-vehicle accident near the bridge on Pine Creek. One man
was bleeding from the head. The injured man went to the hospital
in an ambulance, and a wrecker pulled his vehicle out of the
creek.
11:31 a.m. - Pendleton police received a report of the theft of
sway bars from a trailer at a residence on Southwest Quinney
Place.
1:30 p.m. - A land owner on Brown Lane, Milton-Freewater,
reported someone shot at his hired man in one of his ¿elds.
Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies took a report.
2:15 p.m. - A Pilot Rock resident reported the theft of building
materials from a rental property on Southeast Cherry Street
during the night.
6:19 p.m. - A resident of Hat Rock Road, Hermiston, reported
his tool shed broken into sometime during the past four days. He
was making a list of missing items to give to the Umatilla County
Sheriff’s Of¿ce.
SATURDAY
1:33 p.m. - Someone stole a four-wheeler from a Milton-
Freewater resident on the 100 block of Southeast Fifth Avenue.
3:04 p.m. - A dog attack on children on Southwest Third
Street, Irrigon, prompted their father to call law enforcement about
the dog. He said the children did not need medical help but he
wanted the dog gone.
5:33 p.m. - A woman attempting to use the drive-through
ATM at Wells Fargo, 102 S.E. Dorion Ave., Pendleton, reported a
woman wearing a green trench coat standing in the drive-through
talking to the machine. The caller said the woman swore at her
while she was trying to use the ATM.
5:59 p.m. - A sheep and a calf were killed on property on North
Loop Road, Stan¿eld. The property owner reTuested a Umatilla
County sheriff’s deputy respond and said she had photos of the
kills.
8:31 p.m. - A resident of B Street, Umatilla, reported the theft
of her silver 2006 Dodge Caravan. The caller’s husband named
two possible suspects.
9:33 p.m. - A caller reported a large ¿re to the west of Curtis
Road and Highway 207, Hermiston.
SUNDAY
7:52 a.m. - A resident of Brooke RV Park, 5 N.E. Eighth St.,
Pendleton, reported an attempted break-in at his home around
3-4 a.m. The caller said the suspect did not make entry to the
trailer, and he did not see them.
10:16 a.m. - Knives were stolen from an unlocked vehicle
during a break-in on Southwest Goodwin Place, Pendleton. And
at 10:23 a.m. a correctional of¿cer at Eastern Oregon Correctional
Institution, Pendleton, told police someone broke into his vehicle
on Northwest 11th Street and took his coat and duty belt.
4:06 p.m. - A man doing cleanup work at a burned property
on Southeast Goodwin Avenue, Pendleton, reported a gym bag
containing his wallet and keys was stolen while he was working.

Wednesday
•Hermiston police arrested Pablo Juan Lorenzo, 33, no
address provided, for driving under the inÀuence of into[icants,
hit and run (property), driving while suspended, driving uninsured
and having an open container of alcohol while driving.
Friday
•Oregon State Police cited Joshua Travis Peck, 40, of Ione,
for duii.
•Pendleton police arrested Roland Adam Munoz, 23, address
not provided, for second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal
mischief (vandalism) and second-degree theft.
•Umatilla Tribal Police Department arrested Gregorio Diaz,
19, address not provided, for felony and misdemeanor attempt
to elude police, reckless driving, unlawful possession of metham-
phetamine, hit and run and on a felony probation violation.
•Hermiston police arrested Robert Jay Fetter, 34, of
Hermiston, for assaulting a public safety of¿cer and second-de-
gree disorderly conduct.
Saturday
•Oregon State Police cited Ty Jacob Harris, 18, of Umatilla, for
duii.
•Oregon State Police cited Dustin Bradly Kline, 28, of
McMinnville, for duii. His blood-alcohol level was .02 percent,
below the legal limit, and state police reported a trooper found
marijuana and pipes in his vehicle.
•Stan¿eld police arrested Jeani Elyse Marlatt, 29, address not
provided, for duii (controlled substance), possession of controlled
substance (Schedule II), recklessly endangering another and
unlawful possession of a ¿rearm.
Sunday
•Boardman police arrested Daniel Sainez, 22, address not
provided, for felony driving while suspended, resisting arrest,
possession of methamphetamine and attempt to elude police.
•Pendleton police arrested Sarah Ann Pierre, 37, address not
provided, for possession of methamphetamine and failure to pay
¿nes.

of Pendleton, Oregon, passed
away at her home on Tuesday,
March 14, 2016.
Shirley was born in
Pendleton on October 24,
1955, to Gordon and
Marianne Tholberg.
She graduated from
Pendleton
High
School in 1973, and
after high school
she attended Blue
Mountain Commu-
nity College.
She spent her
career working for
the Umatilla County
Courthouse in the Winburn
DVVHVVRU¶V RI¿FH
and remained there until her
retirement of 35 years.
Shirley was very athletic
growing up. Into her adult life
she enjoyed playing softball,
bowling and golf. If she
wasn’t playing, she enjoyed
watching and supporting her
family in athletics.
She married the love of her
life, Benjamin C. Winburn Jr.
Together they had one child,
BJ Winburn.
Survivors
include
a
stepson, Nick Winburn, and
granddaughters

Forrest Cahill,
HAS
Norquist, Kassandra Norquist,
Holly Winburn, and Layla
Winburn. She is also survived
by three sisters, Christel (Bill)
Quimby, Laura (Phil) Gaines
and Heidi Tholberg (Lance

many nieces and
nephews who loved
her very dearly.

Jim was born
November 19, 1920,
in Conrad, Montana,
to Leo and Teresa
Walter Stewart. He
attended schools
in the Great Falls, Stewart
Montana,
area,
graduating in 1939. After two
years of college he joined the
United States Army Air Corps
in June of 1942, serving our
country until December of
1945. He was a radio oper-
ator as part of a bombardier
XQLW WKDW ÀHZ PLVVLRQV RYHU
the western tip of England,
and he celebrated the end
of World War II in Paris,
drinking champagne from the
high-heeled shoe of a French
woman.
After the war, Jim worked
for the U.S. Forest Service
for several years. On March
30, 1953, he married Naomi
Hess in Hood River, Oregon.
Together, they operated
Raymond G. “Ray” Morgan, 90, of Umatilla died Friday,
March 18, 2016, at his home. He was born July 16, 1925.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 28 at 1 p.m. at
the Burns Mortuary chapel in Hermiston. Burial with military
honors will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Umatilla.

he worked at stores
in Lewiston and
Sandpoint, Idaho,
Pasco, and Kenne-
wick, Washington,
and in 1970, he and
Naomi moved their
family to Pendleton,
where he completed
his career with
Penney’s, retiring in
1982.
After retirement,
Jim and Naomi
spent many years
traveling;
some
of their favorite
destinations were
Alaska,
Hawaii,
Australia, Mexico
and the Panama
Canal. Jim was an
DYLG ¿VKHUPDQ DQG
enjoyed the years
that they lived on
the Salmon River at
Otis, near the Oregon coast.
They returned to Pendleton in
1999, and after Naomi’s death
in 2004, Jim remained a resi-
dent of Sunridge Retirement
Community until shortly
before his death.
Jim was preceded in death
by his wife Naomi, his sister
Antoinette, and his young
son George. He is survived
by daughter Kathy Rinehart
and husband James, son Tim
and his wife Colleen, and son
Thomas, all of Pendleton,
and his son Dennis and his
wife Lori of Gig Harbor,
Washington. Also surviving
are eight grandchildren and

Jerry P. “Pat” Ritchie was
born on March 1, 1948, in
Poplarville, Mississippi, to
parents Robert R. and Patricia
Ledford Ritchie. He
died on March 1,
2016, at his home in
Hermiston, Oregon,
on his 68th birthday.
Pat was raised
all around the
world. He earned a
bachelor’s degree in
business and law. He
entered the United
States Army in May
of 1965, seeing
action in Vietnam.
Pat served until his
retirement in 2008
as a director at the
Umatilla
Army Ritchie

Depot
with 38 years of
service.

Solomon on July 16, 1992, in
the Philippines. He enjoyed
visiting with people, traveling,
scuba diving, new adventures
(he would “try anything
twice”) and was an avid
