southern California was a former Pendleton
woman, Mrs. G.M. Leser, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W.M. Blakely. Living in Los Angeles
with her daughter and mother-in-law, she

the house they were forced to wade in water
up to their waists and were twice swept down

Jan. 29, 1966
Hints that something might be amiss in the
rush to apply for potential farm land in North
Morrow County, under the Desert Land
Entry Act, cropped up in Pendleton Friday.
The Morrow County land deal was the main
subject at the start of a two-day meeting here
by the Legislative Interim Committee on
Public Lands. Dale Mallicoat, clerk of the

decision to release its hold on the Bureau of
Land Management property “was general in
several state and federal departments” and
