Send condolences at burnsmortuaryhermiston.com Same fun, new name for Milton-Freewater festival East Oregonian Out with the old and in with the new: Milton-Free- water is re-naming its summer family festival. Formerly the Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival, the event is ready to rock its new name — Milton-Freewater Rocks! For the past 35 years, the festival has been referred to as Muddy Frogwater, a name some local teenagers had been calling the town in good-natured fun since the early 1970s. The town previ- ously had a Pea Festival, held in May during the 1960s. Later it had a summer Corn Roast, which was re-titled when it was expanded to the weekend-long Muddy Frogwater Festival. As for the new name — Milton-Freewater Rocks! — organizers determined it EO file photo Avery Wells watches her sister, Alyx, as she reach- es out to pet Izzy the Camel during the 2015 Muddy Frogwater Country Classic Festival in Milton- Freewater. After 35 years, the summer festival is getting a new name — Milton-Freewater Rocks! was time for a change. The Milton-Freewater Chamber of Commerce said the new name primarily celebrates three things about the town — “The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater,” the American Viticultural Area designation in the wine industry regarding the unique wine-grape growing conditions; the free live rock and country music that plays on the main stage throughout the event-packed weekend; and the local folks of Milton-Freewater that will totally “Rock. Your. World!” 9LVLWRUV ZLOO ¿QG PDQ\ of the details of the popular festival are the same. It’s still held on the third weekend in August at Yantis Park. Admission is free and the whole family is taken into consideration when planning the festival, which features a Kid Zone, an art show and everything in between.
