Dickey’s owner a
brand champion
PENDLETON —
Shawn Pace, owner of
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit in
Pendleton, was recently
featured as a company
“Brand Champion.”
Each week, Dickey’s
recognizes an owner/
operator from a nationwide
pool of franchise owners
in its company blog.
Those selected go above
and beyond to further the
Dickey’s brand.
The Texas-style
barbecue restaurant
operated by Pace is a
perfect ¿t in the rodeo town
of Pendleton, said Michelle
George, public relations
specialist for Dickey’s.
Pace began his career
in barbecue when he had
the opportunity to use a
family-owned rental space.
After searching for the
perfect restaurant franchise,
he chose Dickey’s because
it was growing at a rapid
rate and provided great
support for its owner/
operators. The best part
about being in the barbecue
business, Pace said, is all of
the happy customers.
Dickey’s is located at
715 Southgate, Pendleton.
It’s open daily from 11 a.m.
to 9 p.m.

KLAMATH
FALLS
(AP) — A report shows that
two female prosecutors have
accused Klamath County
Sheriff Frank Skrah of making
sexually explicit remarks since
taking of¿ce.
In a report made public by a
records request by The Herald
and News, Jill Goldsmith of
Workplace Solutions NW of
Portland writes that Skrah
made inappropriate comments
to members of the District
Attorney¶s Of¿ce on at least
two occasions while discussing
grand jury proceedings, the
newspaper reports.
Goldsmith wrote that some
of the comments may have
been misconstrued banter,
but others, such as repeatedly
calling prosecutors “babe” or
commenting on their appear-
ance, were inappropriate.
On May 2, 2013, Skrah was
speaking to a deputy district
attorney about a missing police
report. During the exchange,
the woman said she would
“beat” Skrah if he did not ¿nd
the report.
According to the deputy
district attorney, Skrah then
replied “it’s OK if you beat me
Pilot Rock man pleads guilty in
child porn case
if you bring ropes and two cans
of whipped cream.”
In another exchange detailed
in Goldsmith’s report, Skrah
is said to have told a different
deputy district attorney that she
“owed him” and that “payment
would come in the dark without
recorders or cameras on,”
according to the woman.
Goldsmith reported she
believed Skrah may have made
these comments in an attempt
at humor.
In the report, there are also
accounts of women reporting
Skrah swatting them on the
buttocks with a ¿le or notebook
and repeatedly calling her by
pet names and commenting on
her appearance.
Later, Goldsmith investi-
gated statements from Skrah
that sexual harassment claims
were unfounded.
“Sheriff Skrah appears to
believe that his denial of having
made inappropriate statements
means that the investigation
found he did not make inap-
propriate statements,” said
Goldsmith.
Skrah did not return requests
for comment regarding details
of Goldsmith’s ¿ndings.
PILOT ROCK — A Pilot Rock-area man is serving
10 days in jail after taking a plea deal Thursday in a
child pornography case.
Richard Lee Rowe, 51, pleaded guilty in Morrow
County Circuit Court to one count of second-degree
encouraging child sexual abuse. Judge Lynn Hampton
sentenced Rowe to 10 days in the Umatilla County
Jail, Pendleton.
The Morrow County District Attorney’s Of¿ce in
exchange for the deal dropped charges of using a child in
a display of sexually explicit conduct and attempted rape.
Court records show Rowe committed the crime
against a girl in December 2014. Rowe’s sentence also
includes two years probation and he must register as a
sex offender.
Psychologist sentenced in fraud case
PORTLAND (AP) — An Oregon psychologist
who charged a religious organization for work never
performed will not serve prison time.
U.S. District Court Judge Michael Mosman on
Friday sentenced Carol Landesman of Gresham to three
years of probation that includes six months of home
detention. The 73-year-old also agreed to pay back
$113,770 and enter a mental health treatment program.
The case began in 2004, when the Diocese of
Paterson, New Jersey, settled a lawsuit with a man
who had been sexually abused as a child. As part of the
agreement, the diocese agreed to pay for the victim and
his wife to undergo counseling with Landesman.
Landesman only provided psychotherapy to the
husband, but billed for both.
Landesman pleaded guilty in July to mail fraud.
She did not make a statement Friday.
