the initial pace was slow, and
found himself leading the race
at one point But the interme-
diate distance specialist was
40 seconds slower on his mile
2 split, and he lost his legs
down the stretch Bylenga
¿nished 30th in 17:05
He cut off his recognizable
afro prior to the meet
“I think I lost my strength
like 6amson,” Bylenga joked
“I mean, it wasn’t terrible, I’m
just looking forward to track”
On the girls side, Columbia
River Conference champion
Delaney Clem had a similar
race to her teammate Bylenga
The senior was in the top
10 until the last mile, when
her legs gave Bend’s *race
Perkins passed Clem on the
home straight, and Clem

¿nished one second from

time of 1:2 was 11th best

Continued from 1B
Ayden Prewitt to give them a
2-0 lead with 27:54 left in the
¿rst half
But just as Hermiston
appeared to be gaining
steam, Liberty used a quick
transition down the ¿eld as
Emmanuel Alejandro found
Ronaldo Dominguez with
a nice cross pass to the left
of the goal and Dominguez
then lofted one over top of
Campos to cut the lead to 2-1
with 25:14 left in the half
The second half played
out as a defensive stalemate,
as neither side could get
enough pressure offensively
to rack up many scoring
opportunities
Hermiston senior Enrique
Leal had some near misses
for the Bulldogs, sending a
20-yard blast off the crossbar,
and then later sending a free
kick just left of the goal
But Hermiston got the
clincher with 4:40 left in the
game when Joel Mendez
found Edwin Rosales all
alone running down the right
side of the ¿eld Rosales
made a quick crossover of
the Liberty defender and then
rolled one past the goalkeeper
with his left foot to push the
Bulldogs¶ lead to 3-1
When the third goal hit the
net, Harshberger let his team
and the crowd know just how
big that was for his team
“I don’t know if anyone
saw me, I try to be reserved,
but I kind of let it go a little
bit,” said Harshberger on his
celebration “It was a huge
weight off my chest to get
that third goal to seal the
deal”
The No 4 seed Bulldogs
will play again on Tuesday,
when they host No 13 seed
Crescent Valley at Kennison
)ield But Harshberger
knows his team will need a
better overall performance
on Tuesday if they want to
keep advancing through the
postseason
“This is a good wakeup
call,” he said “It’s always
tough coming off of a game
like Pendleton where we can
easily impose ourselves and
then come against a team
that can make it harder for
ourselves There’s no easy
games anymore”

“I wish I would’ve gotten

not have sprinted any faster,”
Clem said while still out of
breath “I’m just surprised I
thought I would get a better
time But there’s nothing you
can do I went as hard as I
could I’m not really disap-
pointed I’m not gonna cry
about it”

10 Montana Tech Orediggers 42-24 on Saturday
“I think certainly the storyline of
the game was we didn’t make enough
plays to win,” said head football coach
Tim Camp in comments distributed by
Eastern Ore. EO8 Sports Information “We need to
be better We can be better These games
like this, they hurt to lose, and we’ve
got to take that pain and that frustration,
take the lessons, and that needs to help
fuel us so that we want to get better”

EOU (3-6, 3-5 Frontier Conference)
had yet another strong performance
from quarterback Zach Bartlow, as he
completed 27 of 55 passes for a career-
high 395 yards and three touchdowns in the game
Receiver Joshua Richards brought in a big chunk of
Bartlow’s career-high yardage mark, catching 12 passes
for 113 yards
