He said his cousin stole it. MONDAY •A 20-something man at about 1:20 a.m. was “highly intox- icated and combative” on Buroker Road, Milton-Freewater, after consuming half a bottle of Jamison Irish Whiskey and a couple of beers. A caller asked for medics for the man. •A Hermiston area man at 6:02 a.m. reported he thinks his wife and a man she is seeing are trying to set him up, drug him and try to send him to a mental institution. ARRESTS, CITATIONS Sunday •Oregon State Police arrested Mark William Larson II, QRDGGUHVVSURYLGHGIRUGULYLQJXQGHUWKHLQÀXHQFHRI intoxicants. •Pendleton police arrested a 15-year-old boy for assault after his mother reported he slapped her in the face. •Pendleton police arrested Andrew Joseph Hauser, 21, no address provided, for possession of methamphetamine. Carl Elmer Baxter Karen Renee (Fitzsimmons) Dickenson Kennewick, Wash. March 30, 1924-September 7, 2015 Our loving husband, father, and grandfather Carl Elmer Baxter was called to Heaven on September 7, 2015, in Kennewick, Wash., at the age of 91 years. Born March 30, 1924, in Wendling, Ore., to parents Carl S. Baxter and Frances I. Zahm, he later moved to Eugene, Ore. After attending junior high school in Bonneville, Ore., he moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he joined the Civilian Conserva- tion Corps (CCC). Assigned ¿rst to the warehouse Baxter at the Vancouver Barracks, he later worked in the Kaiser ship- yards. In 1944, he joined the Merchant Marines and trained at Catalina Island. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Yokohama, Japan. After serving in Pusan, Korea, during the Korean War, Carl returned to Japan. There, he met and married the love of his life, Tomoko Hayashi. Shortly thereafter, he received an honorable discharge from the Army and returned to the United States, where he was employed with the U.S. Army Corps of Engi- neers and moved to McNary, Ore., to work at the McNary Dam. He also was enlisted in the Army and Air Force Reserve. He retired after 30 years at the Dam and spent his early retirement in Umatilla, Ore. Carl later moved to Kennewick, Wash., where he spent his last 14 years. Carl was a member of Kennewick Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Merchant Marines. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with family. Carl will always be remembered for his ¿delity and love for his family and unwav- ering patriotism for his country. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Carl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Tomoko Baxter, Kennewick, Wash.; sons Karl Baxter (Laura), Hillsboro, Ore., Terry Baxter (Kathy), Wilson- ville, Ore., and Glen Baxter (Gloria), Corona, Calif.; daughter Penny Anderson (Don), Kennewick, Wash.; sister Ramona Hendricks (Harry), Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents,and sisters Joanna Ripley and Betty Rhodes. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Umatilla, Ore. February 19, 1935-August 8, 2015 Verla was born February 19, 1935, in Adams, Oregon. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 8, 2015, while at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, Wash. She was born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon. Verla was one of four children born to Edgar and Erma Murray. She married William Hickox on October 24, 1997. They had a wonderful life together and he was a very loving husband to our mom. Verla was a very hard worker. She started working at the age of nine setting up bowling pins in Pendleton. She worked most of her adult life as a meat wrapper at various businesses. Hickox She loved her family and friends and enjoyed sharing her love of cooking with them. She was a gourmet cook and a trained bakery chef. She always wanted to be an interior decorator and her homes showed her talent in that regard. When you were invited to her home you were treated royally with food and surroundings. She also enjoyed all kinds of handiwork and crafts. She enjoyed teaching crafts to others and contributing her beautiful crafts and food to church gatherings wherever she lived. Verla also loved her Àower gardens and plants and spent many happy hours in her yard. She enjoyed Àowers so much that she said before she left this earth that she plans on tending God’s Àower gardens in heaven. Our family would like to thank Alan for all his support and the help he gave our mom. It was sincerely appreciated. She is lovingly survived by her husband William Hickox of Moxee, Wash.; four daugh- ters: Debra McAbee (Tim) of Covington, Wash., Dona Thornton (Gail) of Cowiche, Wash., Darla Thornton of Yakima, Wash., and Lisa Ritson of Tacoma, Wash.; one son, Shawn Bott (April) of Yakima, Wash.; and one stepson, John Hickox (Pam) of Drain, Ore.
