Bikers rev up to combat child abuse with Bug Run
Boardman plans
annual meeting
BOARDMAN — Planning is
getting underway for the Boardman
Chamber of Commerce’s annual
meeting banquet.
The Dutch-treat organizational
meeting is set for Friday at 11:30
a.m. at Sunrise Cafe, 101 Front St.,
Boardman.
The banquet is Friday, Feb. 12
and will include a French romantic
theme with Amor.

Bikers from across the
region are invited to partic-
ipate in a fundraising ride
to bene¿t victims of child
abuse.
The Blue Mountain
Chapter of Bikers Against
Child Abuse is hosting its
annual Bug Run. Regis-
tration begins Saturday at
8:30 a.m. at Cadillac Jack’s
Bar and Grill, 1703 S.W.
Emigrant Ave., Pendleton.
Kickstands are up at
10 a.m. The cost is $25
per bike. The event also
includes a 50/50 pot and
prize rafÀes.
The biker with the most
bug splatters on their target
will win an all-day tattoo
session at Inkspiration
Tattoo in Walla Walla.
Also, tickets are available
for $10 each for a special

mental health treatment,

ice cream to help in rela-
tionship building.

fourth year, drew upwards
of 100 bikers last year. It’s

by John Paul “Chief” Lilly.
A licensed clinical social
worker who also taught at
Brigham Young University
for 17 years, Chief was
aware of gaps in the system
in helping child abuse
victims.
Springing to action
when an 8-year-old was so
afraid of his perpetrators
that he wouldn’t leave
his house, Chief began
including the boy with his
biker circle. Within weeks,
the boy was riding his bike

ride including 27 bikers in
1995. Beginning in Utah,
chapters started springing
up in Oklahoma, Missouri,
Texas and beyond. What
was started as an idea has
continued due to the dedi-
cation of bikers across the
country.
The Blue Mountain
Chapter, which started
nearly ¿ve years ago,
is Oregon’s ¿rst BACA
chapter, Blackjack said.
