•An Irrigon woman at 12:16 a.m. reported her husband
resumed stalking her after she dropped the restraining order she
had against him. She said she believed he was on her property
on Magic Garden Lane.
•A Milton-Freewater resident at 5:57 a.m. reported the theft
of her 2005 Pontiac G6 from the 500 block of Northwest Eighth
Avenue, Milton-Freewater.
•An elderly Pendleton man at 8:25 a.m. reported a female
on Tuesday entered his house on Southwest 28th Street
unannounced, and when she left he noticed some of his jewelry
missing.
•An employee of Wiland Ranches at 9:20 a.m. reported the
theft of 25 gallons of fuel from a tractor at Best and Shaw roads,
Pendleton.
•A man at 10:54 a.m. asked Pendleton police to check on
the welfare of his children on Southwest 20th Street because
he believed his ex-wife smokes marijuana and drinks in their
presence.
•A Pendleton man at 4:58 p.m. on Southwest Hailey Place
called 9-1-1 to report someone Tuesday night again cut his cable
TV line.

The caller was at Pendleton hotel and came to visit his father,
then found his father moved after breaking up with a woman. The

•A Pendleton resident at 5:59 p.m. on South Main Street
complained about the neighbor’s trash spilling from the garbage
can and onto the street.

big bucks. Sometimes the scammers only splash oily liquid on
a driveway, for example, other times they may say there was a
mistake and then strong-arm people to pay thousands of dollars.
They often target seniors and lack proper contractor credentials.
If someone offers to pave your driveway or work on your roof
for free, call law enforcement.
•A man with a backpack was trying to sell items at about 6:40
p.m. on West Ferndale Road, Milton-Freewater, and a neighbor-
hood resident told him to leave. The man called the resident a
“racist,” and that prompted the resident to report the incident to the

•A female at 8:03 p.m. reported a group of males in a beige
four-door sedan tried to give her a ride from McNary Market,

•A Pendleton man asked to speak to police about vegetables
being taken from his garden on Southwest Isaac Ave., Pendleton.
•A man at about 9 p.m. triggered the suspicions of a
Milton-Freewater woman. She reported the doorbell rang at her
residence on Tum A Lum Road, and as she turned on lights she
saw a male step off her porch. He was dressed all in white, she
said, had dark hair or a hat and a dark-colored backpack. He left
walking toward Ferndale Road. She said she was concerned he
was casing the homes.

in Eden Valley, Minnesota.
He was educated in Eden
Valley, graduating high
school in 1945. Jim married
Janice Hannemann on May
14, 1949, in Litch¿eld,
Minnesota. He farmed in
Eden Valley until 1962 when
he moved to Renton, Wash-
ington, where he lived until
1984.
In 1984 he moved to
Pendleton, Oregon, where
he ranched east of Reith. He
farmed most of his life except
from 1945 to 1947, when he
served in the U.S. Army,
and 1962 to 1984 when he
worked various mill, factory
and law enforcement jobs.
He then moved to
Pendleton
where
he ranched until he
became physically
unable,
raising
cattle, sheep and
hogs.
Jim
enjoyed
hunting and ¿shing.
He was a member
of the Main Street
Cowboys, the VFW
Let’er Buck Post
922 and the White
Eagle Grange. He
was a member of the
Christian Church.
He is survived
by his wife Janice
of Pendleton, Ore.;
son Dan Mills of Caldwell,
Idaho, and daughter Pamela
McKnight of Pendleton,
Ore.; sisters Evelyn Fischer
of Minneapolis, Minn.,
and Betty Anne Johnson of
Dassel, Minn.; grandchil-
dren James McKnight of
Pilot Rock, Ore., Shawn
McKnight of Bethel, Alaska,
and Elsa Mills of Caldwell,
Idaho; as well as many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Floyd and
Lillian Mills.

died Tuesday, July 28, 2015, in Richland, Wash. She was
born Dec. 2, 1960, in Portland, Ore. A celebration of life
will be held Saturday, Aug. 22 from 4-8 p.m. at the Desert
River Inn in Umatilla. Disposition was by cremation. Burns

Former Pilot Rock resident Larry Merz, 78, of Libby,
Mont., died Thursday, July 30, 2015. He was born July 21,

arrangements.
