Wednesday, August 5, 2015 ENTERTAINMENT East Oregonian Page 7C Brady Goss keeps the classics alive By JONATHAN BACH East Oregonian One of the region’s homegrown musicians, Brady Goss, will return to the Umatilla County Fair this year. Fairgoers can expect a wide range of songs from the 25-year-old from Wallowa County. The pianist and vocalist said he plays different genres, from blues to classic rock to the old — Brady Goss, crooners’ hits. Umatilla County He said he has a voice for Frank Sinatra’s songs, and that he plays Louis Armstrong numbers and songs like “Hotel California” by the Eagles. And he never plans his set out in advance, he said. “I have no idea what I’m going to play until I get on the stage,” he said. “I have no idea what I’m going to play until I get on the stage.” Photo courtesy of Brady Goss He plays the oldies because he wants to keep them alive in the ears of the listener, he said. “Whenever I play those songs, it means they’re not forgotten,” he said. If you attend a Goss concert, expect to participate. Goss said he likes to engage the crowd. If folks do not join in during a “call-and-response” portion of a song, where the singer signals for the crowd to sing along, he said he has been known to stop the song and egg the audience on to do so. He said he gets his knack for audience engagement from hanging around jugglers, who often have a comedy bit to go along with their show. He said one of his favorite parts of playing county fairs like Hermiston’s is that you get multiple chances to play throughout the event. He said plays three times a day at fairs. And then there are the other performers. “You’re trading the stage with really great talents,” he said. He also enjoys being able to play a set and then explore the fair itself, which is better than just going back to a hotel room. “It’s just a fun atmosphere,” he said. Goss said he started on the piano when he was around 4 years old and used to learn from old Jerry Lee Lewis videos. While he said he does not play with sheet music, he does have an ear for rhythm and harmony. “I don’t know where that came from, but I’ve always had it,” he said. But he did not always have a propensity for singing. He did not sing in public until he was at a concert series when he was 15 years old. He said he used to be self-conscious and shy about singing, but his father pushed him to develop the skill. About the future of his musical journey, he said, “Your guess is as good as mine.” For entertainment times and stages, see pages 16-21 P r op e r t ie s - H er mi s ton , L LC FIRST CLASS SERVICE & LOCAL EXPERTISE 0DNLQJ0HPRULHV&KDQJLQJ/LYHV Tami Rebman Art Kegler Sherie Britt Patti Burres Patsy Keimig Principal Broker Broker Owner/Principal Broker Broker Broker 541-571-5758 541-720-1758 541-720-2020 541-720-1192 541-571-5888 tami.rebman@gmail.com realtor@centurytel.net sheriebritt@gmail.com pattiburres@eoni.com pkeimig@pkeimig.com :HOFRPH W RRXUQHZ 5HDOWRU Stephanie Hughes Nancy Walchli Broker 541-571-1723 nwalchli@eotnet.net Sheryl Newton Shirley Parsons Elva Pinto Broker Principle Broker Broker 541-571-4141 541-571-7434 541-571-6476 sherylnewton@msn.com sparsons@eotnet.net pintoe23@gmail.com Broker 541-720-9769 stephaniehughes27@hotmail.com 320 S.
