Aug. 1-2, 1965
The quartz mills and ore carts have been quiet
at the Sunday Hill Mine since the mid-1930s;
rust forms on both. The tunnels are caving in,
the buildings are decaying; only mice live in the
lodges that once housed mine workers. At night
the wind whistles through the old buildings and
around them; but nobody is left to listen to it.

since 1910 — for well over half of his 87 years. He
awaits the day, which he is sure will come, when

A spout connected to the top of the Mission
elevator broke free and crashed an estimated
150 feet to the unloading dock Wednesday
morning, nearly striking employees and
rendering the elevator temporarily useless.
