scheduled to be completed
in December 2015 and the

will make a decision at that
time about proceeding with
master planning and trail
construction.
The Joseph Branch Trail
has the potential to create
XQLTXH EHQH¿WV IRU QRUWK-
eastern Oregon, said Terry
Edvalson, who provides
project management sup-
port and is an adjunct facul-
ty member at EOU.
“The development of
the rail-with-trail could en-
courage additional interest
in visiting the region, create
new opportunities for the
local economy, and enhance
recreational and quality of
life opportunities for local
residents,” Edvalson said.
The 163 participants in
public workshops held in
Elgin, Wallowa and Enter-
prise in December 2014
provided information about
concerns, constraints and
opportunities along each
mile of the proposed trail.
The information is being
used to develop a draft trail
development design alter-
natives report. The draft al-
ternatives design report will
be presented for review and
comment in upcoming pub-
lic workshops. A survey to
evaluate public support for
various design alternatives
and gather opinions about
other issues related to the
trail will be conducted this
spring.

THANK YOUS
Sherwood’s Parent’s Club
thanks student volunteers
I would like to publicly give a huge
thank you and standing ovation to the
student volunteers from Pendleton High
School who helped with our carnival at
Sherwood Heights Elementary School —
most of the students were from the National
Honor Society and the Leadership Group.
Those of you who have coordinated an
event know that reliable and enthusiastic
volunteers are crucial to making an event
a success. This group of about 40 young
adults stepped up to the plate and absolutely
knocked it out of the park! They were not
just there, but involved which helped to
make this carnival one of our best, in my
opinion.
By giving of their time and energy, we
were able to cover all of our games and
activities which made it possible for our
parents to be able to enjoy the evening
with their kids instead of “working” the
carnival. Their donation of time might
have been small in their minds but it made
a huge, positive impact on hundreds of
people at our school, especially myself. I
am extremely grateful to have had such a
great group of young adults help with Sher-
wood’s Carnival!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
