LUTZ, Fla. — It was a Florida prison inmate’s es- cape that led investigators down a rabbit hole of sin in- and two strippers the sheriff says brokered deals for malt liquor, cigarettes and “conju- gal visits in the woods.” It all unfolded in Sep- tember, when inmate Ja- son Adams escaped from a work crew in suburban Pas- co County, about 30 miles north of downtown Tam- overseeing the crew, Henry Blackwelder, didn’t tell his superiors of the escape un- til three hours later. When investigators arrived, they found empty cans of Straw- Ber-Rita and Four Loko malt liquor, empty packets of syn- thetic marijuana known as “spice,” and a blanket in the woods used for hook-ups. “Prison is supposed to be tough. ... It was basical- ly a party out there,” Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a recent news conference. Adams, who was serving a six-year sentence for bur- Blackwelder Morgan glary and grand theft when he escaped, was caught a day later riding a bicycle. He snuck away after asking to relieve himself in the woods and never coming back. Nocco says his arrest unraveled the 45-year-old Blackwelder’s scheme. Blackwelder immediate- ly resigned after the escape. According to a report, de- tectives found that Adams left the work crew on sev- eral occasions to buy booze, smokes and spice at Black- welder’s behest. Blackweld- er would then get his work crew to smuggle the goods into the prison, the report said. Blackwelder enlisted two exotic dancers who also worked at a convenience store, documents show, to Petty help with the smuggling. One of the women, 24-year-old Jessica Morgan, told deputies “she knew it was wrong” but did it be- cause she had fallen in love with one of the inmates on the work crew. Morgan and 46-year-old Stacy Petty told inmates once a week for about a year. Blackwelder was paid with cash and food for the any leftovers from the food the two women brought for their inmate boyfriends, Nocco said. “He was like Yogi bear out there eating their left- overs,” said Nocco, who held a news conference on Tuesday and stood behind a table stacked with con- SUITS FILED •Midland Funding LLC vs. Maria Garcia; seeks $813.04 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Frank Medina; seeks $923.91 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Clyde Dreger Jr.; seeks $2,552.58 plus interest, costs and fees. •Progressive Classic Insur- ance Company vs. Daniel Jay Kilpatrick; seeks $3,325.43 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Lynette Burrows; seeks $1,646.18 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Penny Qualls; seeks $1,377.04 plus interest, costs and fees. •Atlantic Credit & Finance Special Finance Unit LLC vs. Brenda Puentes (Crane); seeks $2,614.24 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Brenda Crane (Puentes); seeks $1,829.71 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Ko- rina Casillas; seeks $1,584.99 plus interest, costs and fees. •Midland Funding LLC vs. Karl Floerchinger; seeks $1,525.32 plus interest, costs and fees. •Portfolio Recovery Asso- ciates LLC vs. Melinda L. LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (AP) Two Kentucky teenag- ers who vanished nearly two weeks ago are suspected in a multi-state crime spree that had police desperately searching for the couple, an 18-year-old and a 13-year- old girl he had been dating for months. Grayson County Sher- the couple, Dalton Hayes and Cheyenne Phillips, dis- appeared Jan. 3 from their small hometown in western Kentucky. Since then, au- thorities believe the couple has traveled to South Caro- lina and Georgia. Along the way, they’re suspected of stealing multiple vehicles and using stolen checks, law behavior is “becoming in- creasingly brazen and dan- gerous,” and he said they had evaded law enforce- ment twice. The sheriff said he believes Hayes is calling the shots as the teens try to stay ahead of the law. “He’s a hard-headed kid,” the sheriff said. “He does have issues with au- thority. Very rarely does he take responsibility for what he’s done, and he has a his- tory of making bad choic- es.” Hayes’ mother urged the young couple to turn them- selves in and “face the con- sequences.” “I pretty much cry my- self to sleep every night worrying about where they any random individual tries to pull them over and isn’t so nice and hurts them,” she said. The young couple had sentenced to 19 months Or- egon Dept. of Corrections, 3 years post-prison supervi- sion, $440 fine and $60 uni- tary assessment; pleaded guilty to Possession of Meth- amphetamine; sentenced to $140 fine and $60 unitary as- sessment. •Justin Drew Roberts, 23, Pendleton, pleaded guilty to Possession of Metham- phetamine; sentenced to 18 months probation, $500 fine and $1,250 fine-suspend- ed, $25 probation violation assessment, $60 unitary as- sessment and $574 attorney fees. •Amber Dawn Walling-Co- penhaver, 31, Echo, pleaded guilty to Attempt to Elude Po- lice-vehicle; sentenced to 18 months probation, 90 sanc- tion units, 30 maximum jail units, 80 hours community service, $500 fine and $500 fine-suspended, $60 unitary assessment and 90 days driv- er’s license suspension. •Christopher Nathan Murphy, 26, Milton-Freewater, pleaded guilty to Delivery of Meth- amphetamine; sentenced to 3 years probation, 180 sanc- tion units, 90 maximum jail units, 100 hours community service, $500 fine and $2,500 fine-suspended, $60 unitary assessment and 6 months driver’s license suspension. $5. 00 T he Difference Is In The Details Ron and Valori Martin Movies in 3D subject to a 3D surcharge Bernard Ray Hecker, 55, and Rebecca Lynn Castillo, 42, both of Hermiston.
