an illness in Eugene prevented her

abroad, Crater Lake ranks high in
beauty and In Interest. Miss Meldrum,
during. the war, held an important post
with the Pritish war office. Several
of her relatives served in tho army

night, according to T. S. Elliott who
was here today from his home on East
Birch Creek. The grass had dried up
to such an extent that it would break
off when stopped on, he says. .Some
seeding of wheat is being done in the
Pilot nodi country now, according to
Mr. Elliott!. .

The county court has adopted res
olutions to straighten and widen the
Stanfield-neHpulu rode in the west
end of the county. ' It will be ne
cessary for the county to condemn

brought within a short time.

A deal was closed today whereby
ownership of the cigar stand in the
lobby of the Hotel Dorion changed
hands. A. 13. Mays, well known I'en
dletonian, is the purchaser of the
place, lloone Wilson having sold to
him. Mr. Mays plans to increase the
sije of stock carried in the stand. He
will handle cirars, tobaccos, candles
and magazines. He is experienced in
this lino (tf business.
