: A suit for divorce has been brought
In circuit court by Alice Spencer
against James Bpcneeif whose true
name Is alleged to be durance Walker.
Cruel and Inhuman treatment Is given
as the cause of the suit. The com
plaint sets forth that the couple mar
ried here January 20, 1924. The re
turn of her tormcr name of Carlisle Is
asked by the plaintiff who is repre
sented by Carter and Smythe.

. Aequltals In two cases that have
been concluded In the circuit court
have been returned by the Jury which
heard the testimony. James McDon
ald, alias James McClainn, was found
not guilty of stealing a horse In a ver
dict that was brought In at noon. Fred
Kholn and George .Brandt were also
acquitted In a verdict brought In last
night. They were charged with bur
glary. The case of J. B. E:dgar, charg
ed with the theft of goods from a store
was on trial this afternoon.
Marriage IJcenses
Two marriage licenses have been
granted by the county clerk during the
past 24 hours. Bam Rogers, a shoe
maker of Stanffeld. and Terresena Fe
caldo, also of Stanfleld were granted a
license yesterday. Both -are natives of
Italy, and the bride recently came
from her old home to wed Rogers who
was naturalized a short time since
and assumed the name of Rogers when
he became an American. Esklld L.
Christensen, barber, of Athena and
Ne!a M. Corn, also of Athena, were
granted a license.
Boys Confess To Thefts
Four boys, none of whom are more
than 14 years of age, are in the tolls
as a result of their arrest yesterday by
attaches of the sheriff's office on a
charge of entering the house of Leslie
Oibbs on West Court street. They are
Bill Jackson, Georgn Rue, Howard
i Brundage and Alvin Phipps. The lat

Stella Likes Fighting.
Stella French, Indian, released here
recently after she had paid a fine of
$100 for her part in a drunken fight
last summer is In trouble and In Jail
again. After she had settled her fine
here, she started for Wapata, Wash.
At Pasco, she had a fight with three
other Indian women. She. was ar
rested by the authorities there.
Wirt Minor Is Dead.
Wirt Minor, former Pendleton law
yer and member of the legal firm of
Tealfl Minor & Winfree, died In Port
land this morning from apoplexy. A
message telling of the death was re
ceived here by C. H. Carter, old time
friend of the deceased. Mr. Minor was
well known to many older residents
here because of his early day career in
Pendleton,

A fruit Jar full of beautiful speci
mens of strawberries was proudly dis
played today by Mrs. R. O. Hawks at
the office of the county assessor. The
fruit was picked from the vines this
morning and is firm and of a lovely
color. Berries have been picked from
the little strip of a patch all summer,
Mrs. Hawks says. The berries are of
the everbearing kind.
