Merrell of Ottawa, Canada, didn't have to see the Round- Up today in order to become cnthu mastic over Pendleton and the show. Just the sight of the striking costumes worn "by tho sons of the West as a part of the spirit of the event was suf ficient to .make her an ardent fan. Airs. Merrell was a guest of County Commissioner and Mrs. R. R. Bean at the show this afternoon. She was ac companied to Pendleton by her cousin, Mrs. D. C. Sanderson of Frcewatcr. F Management and Actors Com bined Last Night in Offering a . Pleasing Performance. Aided by the weather man's better frame of mind and spurred on by the consciousness that the Round-Up it self had Just opened for a successful first day In the afternoon, Happy Can yon's management and actors com blned last night in an offering of the night show which proved eminently satisfactory to the crowd that com fortably filled the stands. New dashes of colors not possible of presentation the first night were fea tures m the Thursday night show, and that other quality which Round-Up crowds are, ever keenly Interested In, Thrills, was enjoyed. Wild John Day again furnished his part of the unex pected when his bucking horse toppled back on him. The Grant county man was knocked out for a few seconds but came back, none the worse for his spill except bruises. , Singers Get Hands. The special soloists, prevented from being present Wednesday night on ac count of tho Inhospitable weather, made up in spirit last night for two appearances. Horace L. Knslgn, Mon tana man, made a hit with the audi ence, not only his singing pleasing, but his personality getting across In effec tive manner. With Miss Harriet Leach, it was not necessary for an introduction because the Portland Bingor was here lust year and her work ut that time won for her a following with Happy Canyon crowds. Her singing last night main tained her former reputation. Chief Tall Pine, who stuges the genuine wild rattlesnake dance, hud better success last night than on the first night when a rattlesnake pierced his heavy leather glove with Its fangs. The chief got through his part ot the program Thursday night with no un toward accidents. An .even lnrgcr crowd was present at the dance und in the gambling hall following the program than was in at tendance the first night, and judging from the number of bucks that chang ed hands, there was a real revival of the gambling spirit of the early days. AKRON, Ohio, sept. 23. (U. P.) Mrs. Minnie perr, arrested following her husband's funeral, admitted throwing acid in his face, causing his death, "I wanted to make him suffer. I did not want to kill him," she told the police. She told the authorities he abused her. Mrs. Derr said her husband fre quently came In late at nights, force? her from her bed and made her cook for him. Then he swore at her and went to bed. She said she wanted to make him suffer for the mental tor ture he caused her. "I saw his face shining In the moon light.
