Budget Director Dawes, taking the
first drastio action against the alleged
waste of millions of dollars o govern
ment money In shipping bourd oper
ations, has ordered purchases of all
supplies for shipping board vessels
now costing $65,000,000 annually, and
the sale of board supplies, totalling
$200,000,000 to be taken from the
board and placed under control of the
budget director. Under a recent
Harding order all supplies will be
bought for the board's ships through
a general purchasing board and all
surplus supplies will be liquidated
through a genoal liquidation board.
Dawes believes this means cutting the
expenditures in half and will obtain
cash for surplus materials more
quickly.
