July Clearance Sale
Confusion Recorded a
In Change on Market.
NEV TOKK, July 12. (A. P.V
Movements of stocks in yesterday's
listless market were highly confusing.
The rubber group, as well as equip
ments, Sears-Roebuck, Famous Play
ers and Industrial Alcohol, were under
constant pressure, losing 2 to 4 points.
Oils, especially the foreign group,
were most erratic. Mexican Petroleum
rallied some 5 points from its early re
versal and closed at a net gain of 3 3-4.
Leading steels and motors, as well
as Baldwin Lclcomltlve, American
Woolen and American Sugar, rose 1
to 4 points under short covering and
rails were Inclined to Improve. The
whole list, however, reacted when call
money rose to 6 per cent in the final
hour. Sales amounted to ,,425,000
shares.
Developments tn International af
fairs probably mould have exercised a
beneficial Influence but for the further
collapse of foreign exchange. -The
British rate fell nearly 4 cents more
and continental bills dropped 5 to 25
points. ......
Trading in bonds rcactivAly evceed
ed dealings in the stock market, but
the trend was no less uncertain. Lib
erty issues closed mostly at moderate
losses and domestic industrials and

Keeps Wheat Dowtl
CHICAGO. July 12. (A. P.) Free
country offerings to arrive did a good
deal In the wheat market to counter
balance adverse crop conditions north
west. Prices closed steady, 1-2 cent
net lower to a like advance with Sep
tember $1.18 to $1.18 U and Decem
ber $1.21 to $1.2H4- Corn gained 3-8
cent to 3-4 cent, oats finished 1-2 cent
to 1-4 cent off to 5-8 cent up, and Pro
visions unchanged to 17 cents higher.
At first, the wheat market showed
tonsiderable strength with traders giv.
ing much attention to the high tem
peratures in the northwest and to a re
newal of misgivings about black rust
In Minnesota and North Dakota. Later,
however. Indications tnat the move
ment of new wheat was increasing be
came the principal factor. As a result
of greater hedging pressure, premiums
both for No.- 2 hard wheat and for No.
2 red winter disappeared, and 25,000
bushels were sold to go to store. .
Absence of rain, together with re
ports that corn was commencing to firt
in parts of Illinois and Indiana, had a
bullish effect on the corn market. Oats
averaged higher In sympathy "with
corn.
Provisions reflected good domestic
and export demand, as well as upturns
in the value of hogs.

Street cars of Glasgow stop only at
stipulated stations. At oUcr places
the motorman merely reduces the
speed of the vehicle, the passenger
making his ascent to the platrorm on
