The new building is not completed yet, but the work has progressed far enough to tiermit transaction of business. Th building will be completed some time during the coming week. To Build House A house to cost $1,500 will be re modeled by A. J. Best on Bluff street. A building permit for this purpose has been applied for at the office of the city recorder. He does not know his age definitely, but another Indian who ac companied him said he was more than 100 vears old. Klkinse Is listed as a Walla Walla Indian, but he claims to he a I'matllla. He is blind, but his hearing is in no way Impaired. Hie Is setting rather feeble and walks witn the assistance of a staff. nnnnrt-Vp OffliTS Opens Preparations for Pendleton s Round- Ip are already under way, and within a short time, activities will be buzzing in earnest. An office has been opened, and the publicity work Is started now. Miss Alary Joerger Is in charge of the publicity nnd the office, which is over the store of Hamley & Co.. Is In charge of Miss Eunice Bott. Work on the posters to be used to advertise the show Is now under way. Hay nuyer Here. Otto A. Owen, president and gen eral manager of the Owens-Peeke Feed and Grain Co. of Astoria, is In Pendleton today. He is here for the purpose of buying hay direct from the growers to be shipped to Astoria. Jlr. Owen and Claud Parr are warm friends, the former having been on the board of managers of the Com mercial Association there when Mr. liarr was secretary. Tomorrow the two plan to take a trip over the west end of the county when the hay buy er will have an opportunity to get In touch with farmers. report. The season is later than it is here, due to the higher altitude. Wint er wheat is heading and spring -wheat Is in the hoot. Their land is near the oil field which has been developed re cently. A well is being drilled within three miles of one of the farms owned by them. Moisture is plentiful this year. (Continued on page 6.) A line is being run to a spring 000 feet awny from the Chapllsh spring and so cold is the water from the new spring that work men find it hard to work In the ditch where the new pipe Is being laid. The water Is said to be colder than the Chapllsh springs water and it Is be lieved the supply will be greater. The additional water supply will bo avail able for use about the first nf July and will obviate any need of using any river water duricg the dry season.
