Wide and conflicting; fluctuations marked another nervous day on the stock exchange. Standard shares rose and fell two to six points and specula tive issues lost from five to more than ten. Oils were weakest, breaking violent ly at the outset on reports from Wash ington Indicating rapid depletion of Mexican supply. Mexican petroleum suffered an ex treme decline of 13 points to 114 and affiliated shares, particularly Pan American "A" and "B'' shares, togeth er with Atlantic Gulf, dropped three to seven points. Domestic and Euro pean oils with few exceptions also were under pressure Induced by addi tional price cuts. The day's reaction was intensified by other unfavorable developments, notably the weakly review of steel trades condition, which failed to fore cast increased productions. Ralls were among the lsloated fea tures of strength, the market rallying measurably at mid-day when New York Central and several subsidiaries continued regular dividends, Steels, equipments, sugars, tobaccos and shippings, as well as a score of unclassified specialties, followed the oils, almost the whole list recording lowest quotations at the week close. Sales "50,000 shares. The money market and foreign ex change were unaffected by the up heaval In stocks. Tlenty of call money was available at 5 '4 per cent and all leading International remittances evid enced Increased firmness. The feature of the bond market was a break of 5 In Cuba Cane migar convertible 7s. Other foreign issues were Inclined to ease with domestic industrials and rails. Tlust Reports Issued iy Hears, Officials KeeUire WATEIITOWN. S. D., June 16. (A. P.) While federal bureau of crop estimates officials declined to Issue a statement today on reports of rust In festation In spring wheat In South Da koto, they said they regarded the re ports as designed only to Influence the wheat futures market. They said that the earliest known appearance of red rust in this state of the spore which later develops into black rust is July 6. Elevator men say they have reports of rust, but au thorities point out this might be the so-called orange or leaf rust and not the fungus growth commonly known as black rust In Its final development nt the time it attacks the wheat stem late In July and the time when It does damage. Stories of the appearance of red or black rust prior to about July 10 will not bo given credence by authorities, It was said by crop bureau attaches. Rural Offering In Quality Lowers Wheat CHICAGO, June 16. (A. P.) In creased rural offerings of new wheat to arrive had a bearish effect on wheat eflterday, and prices closed .unsettled, three cents to 3 net lower with July 1.31 to 1.32 and September 1.22 14 to 1.22 V4. Corn finished 3-4 f 7-8 down, and oats off 3-8 to . In pro visions the outcome was unchanged to 20c higher. County offerings of new wheat to be shipped to Chicago In time for delivery on July contracts were of sufficient volume to put bulls at a disadvantage. Illinois growers seemed to be pressing to sell. In addition liberal receipts at western points, a total of one million two hundred thousand bushels sug gested ample supplies of old wheat still on farms. Slowness of export call tended further to weaken the market, but this factor was partlyoffset by word from the seaboard that consider able business with Germany had been put through. Floods in Nebraska and Kansas attracted notice also "and re ports of black rust In South Dakota came from a wider area. Rallies which ensued proved, however, to be only transient In the absence of any aggressive buying. Excellent crop reports and large stocks on hand put corn on the down Another Reduction Of 25 cents in Oil SHRBV'EPOUT, La., June 16. (A. P.) The Standard Oil Co. today post ed a reduction of i'5c per barrel on all grades of north Louisiana crude oil ex cept Caddo heavy and Arkansas, which remains at $1 and 70c respectively. The Gulf and Texas Companies met the reduction and reduced Caddo heavy 20 cents. Wool Offering Quickly Taken by Continent LONDON, June 16. (A. P.) Of ferings at the wool auction sales today amounted to 12,028 bales, mostly med ium and lower qualities, which were quickly absorbed, chiefly by the con tinent and unchanged prices. (A. P.) The business of making a living by fighting seems to have undergone a de cline in Mexico.
