not a house in Adams to rent. Adams
has a good school district and should
afford good homes for teachers.

POUTI.AXB, May 21. A fierce
struggle In which a revolver and fish
gaffs were used preceded the urrest of
two alleged notorious poachers on the
Clackamas river yesterday, according
to word received by Carl D. Shoemak
er, secretary of the state fish commis
sion. The battle ended only when one
of the deputy fish wardens fired a shot
directly at one of the poachers, who.
it was said, was attempting to hit hint
with a pike jmle.
The prisoners were Charles Straight
and Bill freeman. They were arrest
ed, while operating in the Clackamas
river, by Deputy Fish Warden John
son and Murphy. Their boat, a net
and seven Chinook salmon were seiz
ed by the wardens.
According to the message received
by Shoemaker, the two men resisted
arrest and tried to iiwet the officers'
boat and run them through 'w ith their
gaffs. The fisht waxed warm until
Johnson pulled a gun and fired jwint
blank at Freeman, who, he said, was
wielding a Ruff. Tho bullet whizzed
past the band holding the gaff und the
implement was dropped.
The two men were charred with
fishing illegally in the Clackamas
river, a closed stream: with fishing
without a license and with not having
their corks numbered. They will come
up for hearing before Justice .Noble at
Oregon City Tuesday.
