Coming after the reduction from ' to 6 per cent by the Boston reserve bank, the action of tnc New York bunk was considered as indicating a gradual reduction of rates on com mercin! paper in other districts in the direction of a uniform 6 per cent rate other reserve districts maintaining throughout the country. The only other rescn districts malt. tabling the 7 per cent rate are Chicago, Mlncnnpolis, Atlanta and Dalles. Governor Harding of the fed eral reserve board, has lust visited the Chicago district and some officials ex pressed the belief his report on con ditions would probably determine the attitude of the board toward adop tion of such a method for easing the fur-R credit situation. CHICAGO, May 5. (A. P.) Kan sas reports of free selling by growers had much to do yesterday with a sharp downturn in wheat prices. The mar ket closed weak, 2 1-2 to 4 3-4 net lower, wilh May r.3S to 1.38 1-4 and July 1.09 1-4 to 1.09 1-2. Corn lost 1 1-8 to 1 7-9 and oats 7-8 to 1 7-S. In provisions there was a net advance ot 5 to SOr. At first wheat showed fresh strength. The majority ot traders however, leaned to the view a reac tion was to be expected from the ad vances. Bears put stress, too, on tl. fact that frosts which were looked fo had proved inconsequential. Then came ne'vs that overnight purchases at Kansas City from country holders amounted to SOO.000 bushels and that consignment notices had become more numerous. Misgivings as to effects of the marine workers' strike counted al so as a bearish factor. The market grew weaker and closed at the lowest level of the day. Corn and oats fell with wheat. It was said rural orier:ngs were larger. .provisions reflected an advance In hog values. 1iT YOU PICK AMY STUvRilSS IN VOUH. WRDeN HO, IT'S AlvY TOO SOON FOR STKAWOeRI6iT.
