During the y. ar the general view was held that the govern-1
went was not sur'ikier.riy vun-rous in prosecuting disloyalty.
There were many patriotic citizens who lilt that while our sol
diers were fighting and dying in France there should be no pa
tience for traitors and disloyalists at home. Ihe government
was neglectful at times through no fault of its o'.vn. .Hut you can
say this for Sir. Wilson's attorney general, the much maligned
A. Jiitchell Palmer he caught most of the big ...; ana he
prosecuted them regardless of politics, bombs or bluffs. Sir.
Paimer was a poor poiiticiaft but a good war time attorney
general.
However r.uru war time government is no wout of office and
it was the public boast of George ;yivestr Vierick last summer
that six nndien German-American votes would uniie in the re
tirement cf the Wilson regime. Ihey did it and Attorney Gen
eral Daugherty has not forgotten.
We now have a government that is giving us prosperity ami
is "safeguarding America."
