today of the death of hla brother, An
drew Hoberteon, who died on Sunday
at the age of 54 In Phoenix. Arizona.
Mr. Hobertt.on'i home was In Port
land where the funeral is being held

man, and a sister, Miss Robertson, for
merly of Pendleton. The deceased
was born In Scotland.

New from Portland that various
bootblack stands in that city have re
duced the price of shines from 15 cents
back to the old charge of 10 cents i
causing speculation a to whether the
10 cent shine will soon return in Pen-
dleton. A Portland story la that the
bootblack union In Portland still In-1
slst upon the IS cent charge but that
many stands have reduced the price
and are accordingly getting the busi
ness.
To Lock Postoffloo I.obby
The Secretary of the Treasury, who
control the management of the Pen
dleton postofflce building, ha ordered
the doors of the lobby to be locked
each night at 9:30 p. m. In order "to
better safeguard the property of the
Government." The first order was to
lock the building at 9:00 p, m. on week
night and at 6:00 p. m. on Sundays,
but Postmaster Cronln prevailed upon
the Secretary to extend the closing
hour to 9:30 p. m. for all nights. A
letter box will be placed in front of
the building for patrona who desire to
mall letters after the building I clos
ed, and the only person who will be
inconvenienced will tie box renters.

was sentenced to 13 months on Mo
Neil's island by the , federal court,
charged with obtaining money under
false pretenses from an O. A. c gin.
Douglas is alleged to have courted the
