Secretary Takes Hold.
Secretary C. I. Barr now at the
helm of the Commercial association
was busy at his desk this morning go
ing over the work of the association
and making plans for the future. Mr.
Barr Is planning on having a meet
ing of the board of directors in the
near future but has not yei set the
date.

The District school board met last
night and voted to retain the majority
of teachers now serving in the district
for the work next year.- Increases In
salary will be made in keeping with
the schedule adopted toy the , state
teacher's association. There will be
no changes in the administration of
the school the board decided.

Hotel Pendleton Block
Alfred Ingram Dies.
Alfred Ingram, aged 22, formerly
ofktbls city, died last night at Hot
I-uVe, his death being due to a com
plication of diseases. He Is survived
by his wife, a four year old daughter,
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph In
gram, and one brother, Holland In
gram. A number of aunts and uncles
also survive. The body will be taken
to Cove, Oregon, for burial.
Music Committee Meets.
The music committee of communi
ty service under the chairmanship of
Mrs. H If. Forshaw met last evening
to perfect plans for holding a song
leaders institute sometime this spring.
The Institute will be conducted by a
district specialist in singing of the
community service organisation and
all song leaders of lodges, churches
and schools are Invited to take advan
tage of the Institute.

William Isaac Dies.
William H. Isaac, aged 71, former
ly of this city and of more recent
years a prominent stock man of Cald
well, Idaho, died recently In Idaho.
Mr. Isaac crossed "the plains In 1868
and was among the western pioneers.
He is survived by two brothers, C.
B.. Isaac of this city who returned to
day after attending the funeral, and
A. M. Isaac, also of Pendleton, and
one sister, Mrs. W. C. LaDow, of Cor-
vallis. A daughter, Mrs. Ida Harten
bower, of Caldwell, also survives.
Asa Thomson Favored.
Asa Thomson, mayor of "Echo and
one of the prominent citizens of Uma
tilla county, la the personal choice ot
Senator 11. N. Etanfield ' for United
States marshal, should Senator Stan
field be given the right to appoint the
marshal. As yet. Senators Stanfleld
and McNary have not yet decided up
on a division of federal patronage,
Should Senator Stanfleld have the
right to appoint the United States
district attorney, it is. thought his
choice would be P. J. Gallagher of
Ontario. As a member of the state
legislature, Gallagher fostered the
straight party ballot bill. .

the benefit of the Washington School
Band at the "Juvenile Revue" FrlT
day night, according to the report
made today by Miss Flora Shaw, prin
cipal ot the school. As a part of the
program, the 18 members of the
boys' band, with the 11 members of
the Hawthorne school boys' band who
generously assisted, gave several num
bers which won favorable comment.
Miss Shaw, Miss Martha Johnson, Miss
Carol Wurtenberger, Miss Griggs,
Miss Eva. Hanson and Miss Lura Hen
d ricks, all local teachers, were among
those who helped to make the Revue
such a success. Miss Johnson arrang
ed the "Mother Goose" selections and
Miss' Hendricks the Hiawatha selec
tions, while Miss Hansen drilled the
dancers, and Miss Wurtemberger di

Gas Arrives-..' r '.
A carload of gas arrived ' toda v. In
Filot Rock for distribution among far
mers. It was ordered through the
Umatilla County Farm Bureau and
Fred Bennlon. county agent, is at Pilot
Rock today to assist in the distribu
tion. About 30,000 gallons of distillate
has been distributed among 28" farmers
at Nollm Pendleton and Blakley, ef
fecting a saving of approximately I J.-
000 over what the same amount of gaa
would have cost. The distillate Is cost.
