Has Money "Changer''
There Is a Bloux City man In com
munication with the Commercial asso
ciation who ' has a money "changer'
which, he says, Is like, nothing on the
market. It can't go wrong declares
this promoter and he is asking the lo
cal association what inducements they
wlll offer him to come here and open
his factory. He would sell stock and
with the proceeds erect a factory to
employ some 35 men, he says.

Finds Conditions Better.
It. N. Crommelin returned today
from an extended business tour of
eastern and southern points. "After
having visited the south and the east
I feel that the northwest suits me ex
actly," he said this afternoon. Mr.
Crommelin found business men of the
larger eastern cities which he visited
very optimistic over the future. Busi
ness is getting better and a rapid re
turn to normal la expected. Mr.
Crommelin said that the south, al
though a little harder hit this winter
by the low cotton price, was also feel
ing better over conditions and looked
to better things this spring.

waa received at L'klah Monday noon
mating that Mra. Callie I)e Vaul, wife
of Dr. De Vaul of Pilot Kock, had
passed away at their home In Port
land Monday morning at six o'clock,
Feb. 28.
Little Bill! Allison, the IS months
old aon of Mr .and Mra. Walter Alli
son, waa badly' scalded on tha neck
shoulders and arm Sunday morning,
when a bowl of boiling water waa ac
cidentally spilled on him. In the ab
sence of a doctor, the neighbors as
sisted In dressing the burns and tit
this writing the little fellow is doing
nicely.
John Ewlng ta visiting this week in
l'klah, the guest of his daughter, Mrs.
Charley Hynd.
Mra. Mabel Case and daughters left
fot their home near Dale Tuesday and
will be absent for a week or ten days.
Mrs. Case goes to look after their
stock on the farm, while Mr. Cose will
return to Pendleton to help his sister,
Mrs. C. H. Seward, move their father,
R. E. Case, to Carson, Washington,
where he will make his home with his
daughter. Mrs. Stewart after the
death of hia wife which occurred Feb.

the hardware store.
Owing to the severe storm last Sun
day, Mrs. John Moore and children
did not get back for school until Mon
day morning. They were spending
the week end at the ranch with Mr.
Moore.
Mrs. George Ness and daughter,
Florence, left for Pendleton Thursday.
Miss Ness suffered a nervous break
down In December while attending 8t.
Joseph's academy and she is being
taken to Pendleton for treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Harley Kirk returned
from Bridge Creek Saturday evening.
A school entertainment was given
at Alba on lost Tuesday evening in
honor of Washington's birthday, which
proved to be very Interesting and en
tertaining, under the supervision o;
Mrs. 8croggins, teacher, who deserves
both praise and credit, as it was an
evening greatly enjoyed by the Alba
people. After the entertainment a
supper consisting of pie, cake and
coffee was served by the ladies.
Albert Peterson haa rented "J. H.
Wagner's hall and will conduct the
dances hereafter. The first number
to be given Friday, March 4th.
Bert Ledgerwood was a Uklah vis
itor Sunday.
There Is still plenty of snow in Ca
mas Prairie, although the weather is
warmer and it is threatening rain r.nd

Is a very good indication of spring.
L. O. Case was in town Monday
night on his way to Pendleton. - t
Tom Willoby of Bridge Creek was
a guest of his daughter, Mrs. Clyde
Helmick, Sunday night. He came
over after aeed grain.
Claud Jarvls who has been work
ing at the Ely saw mill returned to
Vkiah Monday.
Vincent Willoby of Iowa, who has
been visiting his father, TV B. Willo
by, and sister Mrs. Clyde Helmick of
Ukiah, left Monday for Pendleton,
where he has a position.
Newt Reeves and wife of Alba who
have been visiting Mrs. Reeves mo
ther, Mrs. Davis, on Snake river near
Le wist on, arrived home Monday.
Mrs. John Garrison of Takima, who
has been visiting her mother Mrs.
Reeves at Alba for the last week, re
turned home last Friday.
Fred Caateel of Alba, . while split
ting wood, unfortunately cut his wrist
and four stitches had to be taken.

W. A. Anderson, a member of the
school board, and Mrs.' Anderson, were
visitors Friday. The school enjoyed
a very Interesting talk l.y air. Ander

The teachers and pupils of the Uki
ah school,- feel very grateful to Hert
McLaughlin, who is framing each
reading certificate free of charge, thus
creating great interest in the reading
circle work. The frames are differ
ent In design and color, and are very
ittraotive.
Beulah Moore, Russell Moore, Grace
Peterson and Lorena Ness have now
received their reading certificates.
Nellie Anderson, who has been at
tending school In ' Garrett, Kansas,
entered the eighth grade this month.
The lowest per cent of attendance
for the year la 84 percent.
Grace Peterson received 1.10 per
cent In spelling each day in February.

been much Interested In the study of
the boyhood of George Washington
and Abraham Lincoln. Each child,
moulded a picture of these men in hisj

of the flag and also what the stars,
