driving through Oregon City yester
day accompanied by Louit E. Bean
of Kugene, when a speed cop overtook
him and intimated that the speed law
was being violated and that he saw no
reason for the occupants of tho car
being in such a hurry. Mr. Kitner ex
plained that he was president of the
senate and his companion was Speak
er Bean of the house; that tliey had
been delayed at Salem signing 1)11 lb
and were on, their way to Portland to
keep an engagement with the Pro
gressive Business Men's club. TliU
satisfied the officer and the legislator
dopnrted. 'While he was attending the
luncheon President Ritner's ear wa9
tagged by a traffic officer. When the
senator gets to his home at Pendloton
he will write a note to the Portland
police department explaining that he
was en route from the legislature and
therefore immune from arrest. The
president and senator took1 the night
train for Dlympia, where the Wash
ington legislature is performing. Sena
tor Kitner wants the Washington leg
islature to enact a bill similar to the
one; hepnssed in the Oregon legisla
