BENNETTS HERB FOR HOLIDAYS.
Mr. and Mrs. Will H. Bennett ar
rived in Pendleton this morning from
Portland to spend the Christmas holi
days as the house buests of Mr. and
Mrs. Charles J2 .Bond. Mrs. Bennett
and Mrs. Bond are sisters. The Ben
nets will return to Portland next week
for a short sojourn and Mr. Bennett
will come here on January 1 to be
coms vice president and cashier of the
Inland Empire Bank, succeeding C. E.
Wailes. As soon as they obtain a
home here, Mrs. Bennett will come to
Pendleton where she will be welcom
ed by a large number of friends.

today for Walla Walla to spend
Christmas with Mr. Woodward's
mother and sister, Mrs. Laura Wood

Miss Alice Freeman and James T.
Stump both of Yakima, were united
in marriage this morning, the service
being performed at 4; 30 o'clock by
Rev. J. E. Ireland at the Ireland
home, 815 West Court street.

Mr. and Sirs. Stump will leave this
evening for Spokane and after a short
wedding Journey will return to Yaki
ma to make their home.
WILL VISIT WITH PARENTS.
Miss Virginia Todd will leave this
evening tor Hermiston to visit her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C .Todd over
Christmas, returning to Pendleton
Monday. It will be the first family
reunion at Christmas for several years.
Miss Todd's brothers were in the ser
vice during the war and last Christ
mas she was prevented from getting
home by washouts that blocked travel.
MR. AND MRS WHITE HERB.
Mr. and Mrs. Herald White, of Eu
gene, arrived this morning to pass the
Christmas holidays with Mrs. White's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Smith, at
their home here. Mrs. White Is re
membered as Miss Bula Smith and her
redding to Mr. White was an event of
September 15 last.
LEAVE FOR PORTLAND.
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Chrystall of this
city, left on last night's train for Port
land where they will pass the Christ
mas holidays with relatives of Mrs.
Chrystall's. They will remain well in
to the coming week.'

NEW YORK, Dec 24 (A. P.)
Miss Georgia U Gardner, who was en
gaged to become the sixth wife of Nat
Goodwin, actor, is the rightful owner
of the contents of the apartment which
belonged to Goodwin at the time of hi
death. This decision was handed down
today by Surrogate Cohalan, who at
the same time ruled that Nathaniel C.
Goodwin of Boston, the actor's father,
as administrator of his son's estate,
must file an accounting for a judg
ment of 115,374 collected by the actor
and turned over to tho father before
his death.
The decisions were made upon oh
Jections filed by Klaw & Erlanger,
theatrical producers, who sought to
collect a claim of $11,000 against the
estate Testimony was Introduced tn
show that the actor gave Miss Gardner
his personal belongings In apprecla
tlon of her' kindness to him durlrig
his last Illness.

"crime map" hanging on his office wait and changes a red cross from
the old location to the new. His detectives have crocks spotted and

vertising man, was killed here Friday
when he was struck by a motor truck.
He was about 65 years old. At one
time Mr. Dixey was editor of Printers'

received by the Southern Pacific gen
etal offices In Houston yesterday
stated that the tanker Hastnal, belong
ing to the National Oil Co., lying near

Santa Claus on his visits to the homes
of American children tonight will be
compelled to retort almost complete
ly to an airplane on some similar new
fangled conveyance, for the weather
bureau forecast "n snowies Christmas

"Fair and cold," was the weather
forecaster's general prediction. Tho
only snow of sufficient depth for I he
