.stH-k Market lrreaular
'and Heavy Once More.
KEW YOKK, Dec. 11. The stock
market was feverishly trretsular and
heavy again Friday prices of many
i prominent shares recording new low
levels for tho year, though showing
surprising rallying power In the later
dealings.
Shorts were extremely aggressive,
extending their operations to the mors
representative issues In the railroad
division where gross declines' of one
! to almost five points accelerated the
I renewed depression In industrials and
: specialties. ,
j Further light was thrown on the
: backward conations in the steel Ilt
jdustry by the November statement of
'the V ,S. Steel Corporation, which dis
closed a decrease In unfilled orders
;of 315,000 tons, far evcecding ull fore
i casts.
This draws the bookings of the steel
! corporation down to the lowest aggre
: gate of the year, but leaves the total
at Mlightly over 9.000 000 tons, ns
against llttlo more than 7,000,000 tons
in the same period last year.
U. S. Steel was the most active fea
ture fluctuating within a range of 1
point and gaining, a fraction at the
end,- Sales 1,150,000 Shares. ..'..
The money market retained all its
recent firmness, but. foreign exchange
: was variable, rates to eastern Europe,
notably Greece and also to China again
breaking sharply, the oriental rate re
sponding to another new low record
ijr "ilver in London.
'. Convertible Issues were the weakest
(features of the bond market, cspecial
i ly Southern Pacific 5s. which sold un-
jder par. Other Issues domestic and
i foreign, were irregular. Total sales,
ipar value, J18. 750,000. Old U. S.
j bonds unchanged on call.

BOSTON, Dee. 11. The Commer

"There is more wool being sold and
a better feeling pervades the market.
although prices are unquotable on a
lower ibasis. Many grades of wool are
believed to be dragging on bottom and
the outlook for the more remote fu
ture is very encouraging. Meanwhile
there.arp prospects that congress may
pass a, law offsetting the effect of
foreign exchange which will help ttu
market. The demand far cJoth Is still

Arfide from a slightly larger volume
of trade .luring the week at retail .re

al distributive trade situation is not
materially different from a week ago.
Indeed, big, wholesale trade Is a shade
quieter and industry has slackened
with unemployment increase and more
wage reductions announced. jn
wnoiesaie tines the general disposition
aside from the natural desire to clean
up surplus stocks. Is to await the turn
of the year. Retail trade Is reported
good at only two out of 40 markets,

From, quite a few. markets comes the
intimation that retailers are awaiting
the holiday trade, while consumers are
