Mrs. Frank t'.riggs, Mrs, C. A. Crnb
iree, Mrs, Alfred Smith and the hos
tess. The next meeting will be held In a
week, on Friday, December 10, at the
home of Mrs, Griggs.

Mr. and Mrs. John Crow, Jr., arrived
home Thursday evening from Port
land where they have spent the past
veek. Their marriage was an event returned here to visit.

being welcomed for a visit with Pen
dleton friends and with her father,

day evening. Miss Fraker formerly

Mrs, Fred H. Gates (nee Miss Delia.!
Shaw of Boise, Idaho) who was recent
ly entertained In Pendleton as the
house guest of Dr. and Mrs. L. M.
Spaulding. not long ago enjoyed an
honor which will Interest Pendleton
friends who had the pleasure of know
ing her during the visit here. The fol
lowing note Is copied by the Idaho
Statesman from a Pasadena, Califor
nia, paper and it is accompanied by a
charming portrait of Mrs. Gates:
"Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gates, who will
make their homo in the famous Gates
place, South Pasadena, as a part of
the Gates family colony, -have Just re
turned from their honeymoon, which
was spent visiting the different Islands
of the Pacific.
"While they were at the Moana ho
tel, Waikiki beach, the Prince of
Wales and his party stopped there for
a few days en route home from Aus
tralia. Dances were held both even
lugs at the hotel and on both occasions
Mrs. Gates had the honor of danctna
w-ith the British heir. The prince Is
famed as a dancer and It Is said to be
his favorite pastime. Next to that ac
cording to Mr. and Mrs. Gates he en
Joys swimming and he spent most of
the two days in the water.
"Mr. Gates before his marriage was
a prominent bachelor member of Los
Angeles and Pasadena society, and
upon the opening of the season this
winter both he and his wife will be
feated. Before her marriage, August
J, Mrs. Gates was Miss Delia Shaw
and the wedding was held at her par
ents' home In Boise, Idaho.
"The couple visited San Francisco
and Portland before sailing and" re
turned soigh upon landing in San
Francisco on their homeward journey
in Mr; Gates' machine."
When Mrs. Gates' visited Pendleton
as Miss Shaw she became known here
as a girl of beauty and lovely person
ality. Her marriage to Mr. Gates was
a social event of the summer in Boise
and Mrs. Spaulding went to the Idaho
city to act as her matron of honor.
INFORMAL HOURS ENJOYED
Bidden to the home of Mrs. H. M.
Massey, a group of friends enjoyed
several delightful hours yesterday as
guests of Mrs. Massey and Mrs. Ed
Dupuls. A guessing contest and cards
formed diversions for the affair, hon
ors in the fast falling to Mrs. P. W
Dayton and Mrs, C. H, Conroy and
card trophies being captured by Mrs
C. V. Nelson and Mrs. J. W. McGee.
A dainty luncheon claimed brilliant
crimson carnationsc for Its table ap
pointments.
