cause of slides along the Columbia
river. The former, now an express

cently authorized bond Issues. One se
ries Is for 114.000 for the purchase of
file apparatus and the other for 18000
for tho purchase of a block for park
land playground purposes. The bonds
iare 10 year. 8 per cent securities, re
deemable on optlbn after five years.
Five per cent of the bid must be sent
by certified check with each proposal.
The bids will be opened December 1.

Tes Smith Arrested.
Tex Smith, winner of the bucking
championship at -the Round-l'p this
year, was arrested last night In Spo
kane by officers who suspected the
champion of having liquor In his pos
session. No liquor was found but
Smith spent the night in jail on a
charge of drunkencss. He was re
leased on t.'S bond, advanced by of
ficers on his prize saddle, silver bri
dle and other expensive western trap
pings, according to the Spokesman
Kevlew.

The first of a aeries of educational
hikes that will be taken In I'endleton
under the auspices of tho local Y. M.
C. A. will be taken tomorrow morning.
Boys of 10 years and over are Invited
by Cash Wood, secretary, to make the
tour which will start from the Y. M.
C. A. offices in the Despaln block at J
o'clock. Those who come are asked
to bring a lunch for themselves and
1(1 cents with which to help buy meat.
