SHIPPING BIG COAL .. OUTPUT EVERY DAY l.KMMOX, S. D.,Nov. 17. (A. P.) The Cluremont coal mine, owned by the state of South' Dakota, Is now shipping two hundreds tons dally. The product is of the quality known as blue lignite. The Claremont mine "was purchased last summer to Insure state Institu tions against coal shortage. Fuel ,s furnished to the state normal school at Fpearfish, the penitentiary at Sioux Falls, the school for blind at Gary, the school for deaf at Sioux Falls, the soldiers' home at Hot springs, and other state institutions. Individuals may purchase coal at the mine. The mine Is located at Haynes, N. I-., just, over the line from Lemon ;"he orginal owners began the grad ing for a spur railroad from the mine Lemon. PROHIBITION PARTY WILL CONTINUE AS GUARANTEE CHICAGO, Nov. 17. (A. P.l No tice that the prohibition party will continue In operation for the next two years at least for the purpose of guaranteeing a continuation of a bono dry congress two years hence. Is giv en by Virgil G. Hlnshirw, chairman of the Prohibition national committee Here at national headquarters. "We have a mission still," Mr. Hlii sbaw said. "If any one of the major temperance organizations were to stop new it would give a chance to the nets to come back and possibly pass a beer and wine amendment to the Volstead law." NEW PHONE POLES ARE NEEDED TO SURMOUNT SNOWDRIFTS IN PASS MEEKER, Colo., Nov. 17. (A. P.) Telephone Treuble shooters will have easier "work in Rabbit Ear pass this year where snows often times bury poles and wires under several feet of snow. This year the poles are being replaced by forty-foot poles in place of those thirty-five feet long. If the 40 foot poles aren't long enough, still longer poles will bo used next winter. The telephone trouble shooter's Job is none too easy at the best. Rabbit Ear pass is one of the largest of the high mountain passes to be opened to travel each year. Snow covers the pass to a depth of more than thirty five feet frequently and the trouble shooters must dig down to restore telephone service. SEAMEN MAY FORM BIG UNION IN JAPAN TOKIO, Nov. 17. (A. P.l Forma tion of a great union of Japanese sea men is planned, covering the whole of the country, and having as its ob ject the protection of the interests of the seamen. The plan may be regard ed as a counter move against the Ja pan Shipowners' Union "which was es tablished about two months aso, in cluding all the leading Japanese Ship ping companies among Its members. In Kobe about 3.000 seamen are now out of work, while unemployed seamen In Yokohama number about i 1,000. As the shipping depression is feared that marine unemployment will assume a moi-j serious espect. In the circumstances the seamen have come to realize the greater need of combining themselves to protect their own Interests. At the present S different seamen organization ex ist In various parts of the country, the largest of them being the shipping section of the Tualkai, the members of which numbering 15.000. It is now urged th.lt all the organisations hould cntnblno to increase the power of the seamen in dealing with their employers. A. c. and federal dairy field man for Oregon, In his report for Septem ber cow testing. The herd that led all the others averased ft 10 pounds of milk with 4C83 pounds of fat, while the average for 6000 cows reported was only 533 pounds of milk with 25.62 pounds of fat. This was the Smith-Umpna herd In which a large of the cows were freshened in the fall. JAPANESE PLANE FUSE FATAL TOKIO, Nov. 17. (A. P.) While making a trial flight, Llentefiant Iba, adjutant of the Tokorozawa Aviation School, was seriously injured and his mechanician named Iznwa was killed as a result of the airplane taking fire. It appears that when the machine was flying at a height of abofut 300 meters flames suddentty burst forth.
