NEWFOUNDLAND COLONY
TO CURB FISH EXPORT
ST. JOHN'S X. F., Nov. 5-(A. P.)
The coloney of Newfoundland has
initiated' an atempt at government
control of the export of cured fish, the
most important industry of the Island.
Over the protest of many of the ship
ping, fish exporting and other trading
concerns, the legislature at its session
recently closed enacted several mea
sures to this effect.
The most important of these creat
ed a board which will have full juris
diction, subject only to the governor
In- council, over the exportation of
codfish. Under Its terms no one will
uepermitted to export fish without a
license and licensees must comply
with regulations to be prescribed by
the board with regard to the quality
of the fish, the time when it may be
hipped, the quantity that may be for
warded to any particular market and
the minimum price that may be charg
ed. Monthly statements will be re
luired showing the amount of each
grade of fish Jiln the hands of export
ers. , -
Other measure provided for the
Trading of fish and the Inspection of
vessels to be used for exporting the
product, most of which goes to Mcdi

the sponsors of the legislation said It
wag designed to Improve the quality of
