The annual eonrentioa ot the bankers was recontly held in the republican nomination. Friends of Mr. Saylor are urging- his election on the ground of his familiar ity with the county due to a long res donee and the fact he has substantial business interests in the east and west ends of the county. He is known as a successful man of the highest integ rity and when he consented to enter the race he had the enthusiastic sup port of a host of republican leaders sr. well as democrats. Mr. Savior of fered at that time to remain out of the race if a desirable substitute could be secured in cither party. At that time local republicans were urging Charles Hamilton, prominent local farmer to make the race but iMr. Hamilton de clined. In behalf of Mr. Sohannep it is point ed out that he Is an ostimablc man personally and being a member of the bar would understand the legal end of the county work. An objection raised during the primary campaign was that he was rather new in the county. Both candidates a re conducting what might be termed a nuiet campaign. A feature about the county Judgeship is that the salary is low and the, judge oays his own travel expenses. Judge Marsh has been paying his own travel expenses in the county and also when he attends the monthly highway board meetings in Portland, for this rea son his travel expenses have taken more than the salary. In view of these facts it is asserted that only a man with other sources of Income can af ford to take tho judgeship and this was one of the reasons that led to Mr. Saylor's being drafted last sprlnf. i If I- ml - jz I la a messenger of the finest sentiment that can be expressed.
