Pre-Electlon Boom Meets
With scant Success ' " '
NEW YORK, Oct. 26. Efforts by
professional traders to create a pre
election boom in the stock market
Monday met with scant success, finan
cial .and industrial conditions acting
as a check upon speculative excesses. ,
The money market reflected last
week's higher rates for call loans and
the heavy deficit in actual reserves of
clearing house banks. Today's open
ing rate was eight per cent with an
advance to ten per cent in the last
hour. Withdrawal tomorrow of 128,-
000,000 government funds by the fed
era! reserve bank also' contributed to
Jhe stringency, .
Cables from London strengthened
the belief that events', were shaping
toward an early solution of the BritiHh
labor situation. These were supported
by a brisk rally .in sterling. exchange
