Miss Lorene King who Is to leave

party to California, was complimented
in a delightful way Saturday evening
when a group of the young folk at
Riverside entertained for her pleas
ure at the home of Mr. and Mrs, J. V.
English. Games and music were di
versions of the early evening hours
and the guests gathered later for a
delightful buffet supper. About
twenty friends joined, in extending the
compliment.

ery for Alaska's first pulp and paper
mill is reported on its way north from
the east. The new mill is to be built
on the Speel River, near here; A saw
mill is already at work on the ground
cutting timber for the buildings and
docks. Water power will be used ex

J. H. McLachlen. of La Grande, who
was at the head of the posse that cap
tured the two men In a sheep camp in
the mountains near Summerville, told
of the capture and the conduct of the
men to the jail at La Grande, follow
ing it with the delivery of them to
officers from here. After he was
heard the state rested its case.
Floyd Henderson was called to the
stand by the defense to tell of the oc
currences In the Jail on the night of
the capture but was not given a
chance to testify because of the dis
trict attorney's motion. He was to be
called again this afternoon.
Bancroft was to be called by the de
fense this afternoon and also R. W
Fletcher of the grand Jury, whose
story has been one of the big points
for the state, J. A. Schmidt, also a
member of the grand Jury, was called

soldiers who died in the great war. In
the address he praised the heroism of
