The direction of "The Peddler of
I.les," was entrusted to 'William C
Dowlan, one of Universal' most cap
able craftsmen and the stellar roles
aro In the hands of Frank Mayo, who
starred in "The Brute Breaker" and
"Lsca," and Ora rurew. who starred
In "Loot" and "t'nder Suspicion." In
addition the cast includes DuKmai
Oodowsky. Ora Deyereaux, Flora Hot
lister. Bonnie Hill, Truman Van ryke,
Harold Miller, Kay-Ripley. James nar
row, William Brown and many others.
"The Peddler of Lies," Is full of in
teresting incidents, gripping situa
tions, tense climaxes, while the ident
ity of the leading- character is a mys
tery until the final scene. Frank Mayo
appears In the role of the itinerant
merchant whose converted army truck
contains everything- from a noedte to
an anchor; Ora Carew h:ts the role of
the aristrocratic Diana Kirkland, who
falls in love with the Peddler; Ray
Ripley and Bonnie Hilt are seen as the
bogus De ValUgnacs, . and - Dngmar
Oiodowsky has the role of patriea. Mel

Hose JlcGrew, dramatic soprano, who
han achieved considerable fame , in
concert work both In this country and
abroad, has been naniod to- head the
vofee department of the school for the
coming- year: Madam McGrew was at
the University of Oregon this spring, j
wnen she appeared in the Music Festi
val sponsored by the-School of Muslv

AlHtliinr McGraw achieved wide
spread mitico in Ie-nver, whre she
taught for podi time and appeared
in concert in Ihe municipal auditorium
of that city. Sh has toured exten
sively In this country, appearing in
concerts and recitals.
Twelve years have been spent by
Madam MoGrew studying and appearing-'
ip operas in Europe for the
greater part of this time she was lead
ing dramatic soprano in an opera
company touring in Germajiy before
the war, singing lyric parts, such as
Marguerite in Faust, Elza in tiohen-
grin, and Undine. Iater she- created
many new roles which had not been
sung before, appearing In dramatic
roles "before several of the European
f royalties. She also spent some timu

This spring. Madam McGrew took
the leading soprano roles in the opera,
