Fabrics are clingy, in many instances, and they must be well-tailored.
There's a busy air in the skirt section these Spring days. There
popularity has returned with the advent of the Sport coat.
In addition to the models in woolen material, we are showing the
new Crepes. Taffetas, splendid Failles in black and navy as well as
the more daring shades of Spring.

ntOM MR. STKAIN
ldltor East Oregonlan:
In your Issue of Friday you suggest
that I may be made the nominee of
my party for County Judge In event
jthnt Mr. Say lor cannot be InduoYd t

posttloji entlrel'. I have not been n
candidate at all. i
The only ptHMMfle c(insidor.itin thnt
could change my attitude would he
for both of my own party and largo
numbers in other yartien to cnvlnr-c
me that I am their first choice, ;mH
not their second or third or fourth
choice. I tak it that among thise
who have supported me h'Tetoforr-
many have actuated by a deslr
aid and benefit me. If these same '
persons should Insist on selecting theli
own candidate and then turn the ta
rles on me by insisting th;it T sene
them as County Judge for what they i
conceive to be their benefit at this
time, when It is alleged that million
of their money Is to bo expended in
public improvements by the County
Court within the next six years, they
would have a moral claim on me so
strong that I could not lightly Ignore
H, and should such sentiment express
itself between now and April 21st, the
latent date that a candidate for
county office may file, the candidacy
of some one else would not control my
action. It is difficult however, td fig
ure out what the alleged millions that
;iro to pass through tho hands of the
Court are to be spent for. The prtn
clpal funds that they have control f
are for general county expenses
amounting to sixty nr seventy thous
and a year, the most of which is fixed
by statute, and must le raised; and
the nrdlnn rv road tax which seldom
or ever exceeds one hundred" thirty !
thousand dollars a year. Just how
this two hundred thousand dollars
year Is going to run Into millions in
six years Is not apparent. The market

died thousand dollars a year. This
will be expended under the supervision
of the County Court, but the grades
and surveys shall be provided by the
.utato Highway Commission.
Any other large Hums which mfly
crime into the hands of the couniy
Court can arise only through bonds
voted by the people, or a ta voted by
them, as provided In tho six per cent
limitation tax law.
And in either event I would have
the same vofe and the same right of
discussion as a citizen as I would
have as County Judge.
Also any new bond money to be
used In co-operation with the State
would have to be spent under the same
sanction and control of the State
Highway Commission an the present
bond money is being- spent.
