"The only purpse of this conven
tion is to explain to the delegates the
reasons which prompted their officers

for settlement of the strike. It is de
signed to promote more complete un
derstanding among tho United Mine
Workers of tho settlement and to se
cure great harmony of action among
the miners and to insure maximum
coal production. By harmony of ac
tion I mean a more hearty and spirit
ed acceptance of the president's proposition."
